Dirty Market Theatre

Dirty Market Theatre Dirty Market are theatre bricoleurs based in Southeast London. We use open, inventive approaches to make involving performances.

We use the concept of Bricolage* to work with classical or extant texts looked at through a contemporary lens. We incorporate the elements of play and preparation that often get discarded in the final performance. Dirty Market performs in non-traditional venues in central locations as well as in communities where theatre doesn't normally take place. Our vision is to cultivate an ongoing dialogue w

ith the audience, with our events open to offshoot projects.

* ‘Bricolage – from the French verb bricoler, meaning "to tinker" or "to fiddle" – “do-it-yourself”. A person who engages in bricolage is a bricoleur - a person who creates things from existing materials, is creative and resourceful, who collects information and things and then puts them together in a way that they were not originally designed to do. Bricolage is also often contrasted with engineering: building by trial and error rather than based on theory.’
