Today we remember.
We unite.
We renew.

Kwibuka is not only about looking back — it is about how we choose to live forward.

In Rwanda, remembrance is active. It asks something of us:
to build differently, to lead with care, and to refuse division in all its forms.

There is something the world can learn from this — especially in spaces like sport, where we speak so often about unity, but don’t always practise it.

At Local Champions, this is our responsibility too.
To create environments where young people grow with dignity, belonging, and shared purpose.

Most people see football.

We see how children learn, think and grow.

That’s the difference.

Curious what this actually looks like for your child?

If you only scout in stadiums, you’re already too late.

We took football to every district —
because the next generation isn’t waiting to be discovered.

The Gicanda Invitational is how we find them early, support their coaches, and change the system.

Next step: scale it.

Who’s building this with us?

Leadership doesn’t start at the top. It starts here.

At Local Champions, we’re nurturing young leaders grounded in curiosity, responsibility, and teamwork — on and off the pitch. From our Academy to our Young Entrepreneurs Alliance.

Every session is intentional:
to ask questions, take ownership, support each other, and grow with confidence.

This is how we build champions.

Water break at the academy 💧⚽

Thanks to the support of ,players and visiting teams at the Local Champions Academy now have access to clean drinking water during training and tournaments.

It’s a simple thing — but it keeps young athletes healthy, focused and able to perform at their best.

At Local Champions we work with partners who believe in investing in community-led sport and real opportunities for young people across our programmes and academies.

The best programmes are led by people who have lived the journey. 🏆

At Local Champions, our programmes are led by former players, women leaders and young professionals who understand the realities of the communities we work with.

In this photo:

🇷🇼 Gloria – former Amavubi captain, Licence C coach and Head Coach of our academy, currently part of the Atlético Madrid coaching programme supported by Visit Rwanda
⚽ Gatete – former professional player and our Academy Manager
🌱 Eric – First Division player and Licence D coach leading personal development in the academy

This approach isn’t just for football.

Across all global Local Champions programmes, we believe social value is strongest when work is co-created, co-designed and led by the communities themselves.

Because the people closest to the journey often have the greatest power to lead it.

⚽ Follow our journey as we continue building community-led pathways and mentorship for young people.

Football has the power to be more.
More than a game.
A space for joy, connection, belonging and healing.
Last week the pitch brought together academy players, women legends, and leaders from MINISPORTS, FERWAFA and RDB — all sharing the same ball, the same laughter, the same purpose.
This is what sport for development looks like.
When generations meet. When barriers soften. When community wins.
At Local Champions, we don’t just play football — we create spaces where people feel seen, connected and empowered through sport.
Because the power of football belongs to everyone. 🤍
If you believe in sport as a tool for connection and social change, walk with us.

🏆Partner with us. Support the work. Be part of the movement.

✨ EPISODE 22| KAMONYI — VISIONARIES✨

In Kamonyi, football is about seeing beyond today and believing in tomorrow. ⚽✨
Here, girls train with purpose — building strength, speed, and confidence with every session.

Today, we celebrate Ingabire Gisele 🌟
🗣️ “My name is Ingabire Gisele. I play in the Nkunda Vision Team. My goal is to play at international levels and help those in need.”

Her journey shows that true vision is about ambition, discipline, and giving back.

As the founder of Local Champions reminds the girls:
🗣️ “When you go to training, try to be a little bit stronger, faster, and communicate more.”

This is Kamonyi.
This is VISIONARIES.

A record-breaking moment — built on real relationships.🌍⚽
Our academy kids on the pitch.
Our coaches in the mix.
Rwanda’s culture front and centre.
This is what it looks like when the world meets the equality partners.

As millions tuned in, Local Champions worked alongside partners to make sure young people — especially girls — weren’t watching from the sidelines, but part of the moment.

This is how we work:
⚽ play before performance
👧🏽 girls visible, not tokenised
🌍 local roots, global reach
🥁 football and culture, together

From community pitches to national stadiums, we build moments that open doors — and pathways that last.

More to come.

Always for the next generation.

✨ EPISODE 21 | NYANZA — “BALL CONTROL” ✨

In Nyanza, football begins with the basics — and grows into belief. ⚽✨
Here, girls are learning more than just how to play; they’re building skills, grit, and focus, one touch at a time.

Ball control is more than technique.
It’s patience.
It’s discipline.
It’s learning how to guide the ball — and your dreams — exactly where you want them to go.

On these fields, every pass is intentional.
Every drill sharpens confidence.
Every challenge strengthens resilience.

Today, we celebrate Niyigena Aline 🌟
🗣️ “My name is Niyigena Aline, I’m 14 years old, and I dream of playing for the AS Kigali women’s football team.”

With determination in her feet and ambition in her heart, Aline shows us that controlling the ball is the first step toward reaching bigger stages.

From local pitches to national dreams, the lesson is clear:
Master the basics. Trust the process. Play with purpose.

This is Nyanza.
This is BALL CONTROL.
This is where dreams take shape — one touch at a time.
