Spaces where we can bring the questions we don’t have answers to, share our thinking, listen to different perspectives and learn from one another.

Because sometimes, the most valuable thing we can offer each other isn’t an answer — but a space to think.

That is the kind of professional community we want to create at IAN.

Thinking Relationally About Autism: Attachment, Family Experience, Clinical Practice

This is not a lecture offering definitive answers.

It is a space for therapists, psychologists and practitioners to question, reflect and think together about how attachment theory might — or might not — help us understand the experiences of autistic children and young people, their families and our clinical relationships with them.

What can an attachment perspective add to our understanding?
Where might it be useful — and where might we need to question it? How does our own clinical thinking shape the way we understand the child and family?

How does attachment theory actually change what happens in the therapy room?

Many therapists are familiar with the language of attachment. But understanding how attachment processes shape personality, relationships, emotional regulation and the therapeutic relationship can offer a much richer way of thinking about our clinical work.

On 5 & 6 September, the International Attachment Network is bringing practitioners together in London for two days of in-person learning:

Introduction to Attachment-Informed Therapy and its Clinical Application

Whether you're relatively new to attachment theory or returning to it after years in practice, this training offers an opportunity to consolidate your understanding and explore its clinical application alongside other therapists and practitioners.
