Advancing education across the Commonwealth requires strong partnerships, shared expertise, and collaboration across sectors.

The Commonwealth Education Trust works with NGOs and ministries of education to strengthen teaching capacity, improve learning outcomes, and support sustainable education reform in low- and middle-income countries.

Through our programmes, we help partners to:
- Build teacher professional development systems that are scalable and contextually relevant
- Support education ministries in strengthening national teaching capacity
- Deliver digital and blended learning solutions that reach teachers where they are most needed
- Share best practice across countries and education systems

Our approach is focused on long term impact by investing in teachers, the most important factor in improving student learning outcomes.

We welcome collaboration with organisations that share our commitment to improving education quality and expanding opportunity for all learners.

A year of impact, growth, and global progress in teacher development.

The Commonwealth Education Trust 2025 Impact Report showcases how our work continues to support teachers, strengthen education systems, and improve learning outcomes across the Commonwealth.

This year, we have seen continued expansion of our Teach2030 platform, reaching more countries, more teachers, and more classrooms than ever before. Our programmes are helping educators develop practical teaching skills, improve digital capability, and apply new approaches directly in their classrooms.

Key highlights from this year’s report include:

- Continued global growth of teacher engagement across low- and middle-income countries
- Strong improvements in course completion and teacher learning outcomes
- Evidence of measurable classroom impact, with teachers reporting improved practice and confidence
- Expansion of partnerships supporting scalable professional development

At the heart of this work is a simple belief. When teachers are supported, learners thrive, and education systems become stronger and more equitable.

Our 2025 Impact Report is now live!

At the Commonwealth Education Trust, we believe every child deserves access to a quality education, delivered by a well-supported and transformative teacher. Yet millions of children are still missing out due to teacher shortages and limited access to training.

Our 2025 Impact Report highlights how we are working to address this challenge through Teach2030, our award-winning, low-cost, low-data platform designed to support teachers in under-resourced settings.

Last year, we continued to grow our global reach and deepen our impact:

• Teach2030 is now active in 155 countries
• Our community has grown to over 40,000 registered teachers
• Course completion rates have increased to 55 percent, well above typical online benchmarks
• 98 percent of teachers report improved classroom practice
• We estimate that more than 5.6 million children have been positively impacted

Beyond the numbers, this impact reflects teachers gaining the confidence, skills and support they need to transform learning in their classrooms.

In 2026, we will continue to focus on building new partnerships to expand access and enhancing the Teach2030 platform to better serve our growing global community.

In the film, Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, the life of Frank Abagnale is dramatised. Abagnale was a fraudster who, in the 1960s, faked qualifications to work as a doctor, airline pilot, and lawyer. While pretending to be a doctor, he reportedly supervised medical procedures.

Most of us would be shocked to discover the professional we rely on is not properly trained.

Yet this is the reality in many classrooms around the world.

In parts of sub-Saharan Africa, only 62 percent of primary school teachers have the minimum teaching qualifications. Without urgent action, 300 million young people could lack basic literacy and numeracy skills by 2030.

Teacher quality has a powerful impact on learning outcomes. Research by John Hattie highlights how effective teaching practices, strong relationships with learners and meaningful feedback can significantly improve student achievement.

Through Teach2030, the Commonwealth Education Trust is investing in teachers in low and middle income countries. Since 2019, more than 40,000 teachers in over 150 countries have enrolled in Teach2030 courses, with over 95 percent reporting improvements in their teaching or digital skills.

Commonwealth Education Trust is delighted to announce a new partnership with Human Practice Foundation in Kenya.

Human Practice Foundation works with schools in rural areas of Kenya, particularly in the Mount Kenya and Maasai Mara regions. Their work focuses on rebuilding school infrastructure and strengthening teaching through improved pedagogy.

Through our Teach2030 platform, which provides low data, contextualised professional development courses, workshops, teaching tips, and classroom resources, Human Practice Foundation will support teachers to complete four courses: Independent Learning, Formative Assessment, Practical Active Learning, and Growth Mindset. Together we will work with 400 teachers across 35 schools to help strengthen classroom practice and improve learning outcomes.

Happy !

Today we reflect on our Commonwealth family – 56 nations and 2.7 billion people, representing one-third of humanity, united not by geography or force, but by shared values.

Around the world, there are 250 million out-of-school children. More than 40 million of those children live in just two Commonwealth member states, Nigeria and Pakistan. Of the 763 million young people and adults who lack basic literacy skills, more than half live in The Commonwealth.
Teacher shortages in the Commonwealth are largest in the countries where needs are greatest, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa where 1 in 3 of the additional teachers that must be recruited by 2030 are needed.
They need the skills and the training that's why The Commonwealth Education Trust invests in teachers through Teach2030 .
