Since 2009, it has successfully completed renovating many schools in rural areas of Dang and Sindupalchowk and is currently working on expanding it to other parts of Nepal. GMIN had also established an 'Earthquake Relief Fund' to support rebuilding of schools that were hit in the North-Eastern part of Nepal by a 6.9 Richter scale earthquake on the 18th of September 2011. As a part of this initiati
ve, the 14th and 15th schools that GMIN had worked on was in Taplejung where over 50 schools were destroyed in the earthquake. In addition to this, GMIN has been conducting women empowerment programmes; providing training to teachers, scholarships for students and teaching aids to schools. GMIN UK is a new chapter of GMIN which will work hand in hand supporting projects by raising funds and sharing ideas. Our mission of improving education in Nepal's rural areas is focused on the following objectives:
- Enhancing local children's access to formal (school) education.
- Promoting community-centred participatory learning.
- Facilitating training programmes including vocational training.
- Incorporating knowledge on health and environment in education.
- Contributing to the holistic development of children. GMIN UK aims to support children not just for today but aims to equip them with the knowledge and skill which will unquestionably have long lasting impacts on their lives.
