The development of AI has been moving at rapid speed over the last year, and many AI researchers and industry leaders have warned of the existential risks posed by the technology. This talk will introduce the core challenges in aligning advanced AI to human values and preventing us losing control of these systems.
Marius Hobbhahn is the CEO of Apollo Research, a recently founded AI Safety organisation that is working on understanding AI systems well enough to prevent deceptive behaviour.

London EA Hub event: The AI Alignment Awards Hackathon
Will advanced AI be beneficial or catastrophic? We think this will depend on our ability to align advanced AI with desirable goals – something researchers don’t yet know how to do. AI Alignment Awards are running contests to make progress on two key subproblems in alignment:
The Goal Misgeneralization Contest: How can we prevent or detect goal misgeneralization?
The Shutdown Contest: How can we design AI systems that are open to being shut down, even as they get increasingly advanced?
No prerequisites are required to participate. The deadline for the awards submissions is March 1, 2023.
LEAH will be running an in-person hackathon at the London EA Hub offices all day on Saturday 25th February. Click for more details and to sign up to attend: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ai-alignment-awards-hackathon-tickets-540987597467
