Stretch Horizons: A Day Out in the Heart of the Classroom without leaving school

👣👀Designed to stretch horizons – our China Challenge Days spark curiosity, build cultural capital and help young people understand that the world is bigger, more diverse and more fascinating than the world immediately around them.
For one day, the classroom becomes a ⛩gateway into another country, civilisation, timeline and culture.
Pupils don’t simply sit and listen. They experience China.
🤖They might discover China’s extraordinary development in the realms of tech, AI and robots and generate innovative ideas themselves.
👘They might dress up in antique robes and imagine life thousands of years ago.
🐲They might discover the innovations and civilisation of the Shang Dynasty and investigate the archaeological secrets of Dragon Bones.
🛣🐪They might explore the Silk Roads, discovering how people, products, ideas and cultures travelled across continents - then and now.
🍵Or they might investigate the extraordinary history of tea and porcelain – designing their own teapot before experiencing a traditional gongfu tea ceremony and discovering how a simple “cup of cha” became part of British life, trade and global history.
Along the way, pupils explore China's extraordinary scale and diversity – its people, cultures, cuisine, flora and fauna, cities, technology and innovation.
And they get involved.
Our days are hands-on, interactive and deliberately immersive, developing curiosity alongside oracy, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity and numeracy. Every Challenge Day also includes a taste of Mandarin and Chinese calligraphy.
Because learning about China is not simply about learning facts about one country – it’s about stretching horizons. 🏙🌏🏖⛰ It is about developing a sense of place in the world – understanding that there are different perspectives, different landscapes and geographies, different languages and different ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
