We provide food, support and emergency accommodation to people facing homelessness all year round.

Hackney Winter Night Shelter has been operating in the borough for 25 years. We provide a meal and a bed for those who would otherwise be sleeping rough. No longer just a Winter night shelter - we are open all year round - both our main shelter and our women's shelter. Our Advocate and Support Workers help our guests to find stable accommodation and offer the support they need so that they do not return to the streets.

This week we were pleased to see some more shelter guests secure longer-term housing including F, who was happy to have found a place close to his college so he can keep going with his course. Another guest was referred into the shelter initially after rough sleeping for a few weeks following the end of his marriage and the loss of his home. He moved out yesterday into a studio flat. We wish them both the best in their new places 💙 and heres our most recent puzzle in progress!

Did you know that today is International Translation Day? 30th September is the day of the feast of St Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators. Here at Hackney Night Shelter, guests come from a range of places across the world and speak a variety of languages, so we are thankful for all the translators who help us communicate with one another!

Backyard Comedy Club has kindly offered a pair of tickets to everyone who completes the Sleep Out for Hackney Night Shelter, fundraising challenge which goes towards essential running costs to keep the shelter open every night of the year supporting over 200 people facing homelessness 💙 to find out more and take part head to the link in bio 🔗 and check out the Backyard Comedy Club to see their upcoming shows!

We recently supported T, a 48-year-old man who was facing homelessness after being illegally evicted from his home when the locks were changed while he was out. While staying at Hackney Night Shelter he was able to receive support with his housing situation and moved on this week into his new place. He said "I was able to open a new page in my life."

Here's some positive news to brighten your feed ☀️ here at Hackney Night Shelter over the past week we've been very pleased to see 8 more shelter guests move on positively into stable housing - to either private rented places or supported accommodation. We're wishing them all the best in their new homes!

We recently had a lovely visit from Re-Gen, who brought a big grocery donation of supplies for the shelter and cooked a delicious meal for the shelter guests. Thank you so much to the team for your support 💙

Hello from Hackney Night Shelter, where we're busy as usual with 20 guests staying here each night while they receive support into longer-term accommodation. We recently welcomed four new guests, and another guest has a viewing for a place tomorrow - fingers crossed it goes well! We couldn't do any of our work without the incredible volunteer team, from cooking eggs in the morning to being a friendly face welcoming guests as they arrive each evening 💙

Calling all of our neighbours in Hackney (and beyond)! On Friday 9th October join our local community for a night of connection raising funds to create routes out of homelessness. We need YOU to make this year's Sleep Out the best one yet. Over the past year, the numbers of people rough sleeping in London reached record high. Behind the figures are real people who need support. Join the Sleep Out and help raise funds to keep Hackney Night Shelter open 365 nights a year and provide people facing homelessness with assistance into settled accommodation.

The Sleep Out is a community fundraiser with live music and comforts provided like toilets and a steward throughout the night - it is not meant to replicate the unsafe
conditions of rough sleeping. We will also hear stories from former shelter guests about their experiences and how Hackney Night Shelter made an impact on their
lives.
It’s a great opportunity to take on a fundraising challenge as team which could make a huge difference to people facing homelessness in Hackney - whether its with

We were pleased to hear Andy Burnham launch a new national Rough Sleeping Programme this week aiming for every person rough sleeping to be offered accommodation this winter. Last year the numbers of rough sleeping reached the highest on record. At Hackney Night Shelter, we understand that supporting people experiencing homelessness is not just about providing an emergency bed space but crucially enabling people to access stable, longer-term housing. We welcome this news and hope to see more developments in the coming months towards addressing the systemic changes needed to tackle the housing crisis.
