🏹 The Mashco Piro. They're believed to be the uncontacted people with the largest population in the world. But right now, their survival is at risk.

While most are believed to live in the south-east of Peru, many Mashco Piro people also live in Brazil, where they occupy mostly protected territories. Meanwhile, in Peru…

Only a THIRD of the Mashco Piro’s forest in Peru is recognized by the Peruvian government. The rest of it is open to logging concessions, which are destroying the Mashco Piro’s forest and putting their very survival at risk.

But they’re not alone in the fight for their lands and lives. We at Survival, alongside Indigenous organizations like FENAMAD and AIDESEP in Peru and MAPPHA and COIAB in Brazil, are working to get the Mashco Piro’s territory full recognized and protected. Like all uncontacted Indigenous people, the Mashco Piro need their territory fully protected to survive and thrive.

This , will you stand with the Mashco Piro?

It’s hard to get your head round the sheer scale of Weda Bay Nickel.

👉 It’s the world’s largest nickel mine, created by gouging out the heart of an abundant rainforest on Halmahera Island, Indonesia.

But this forest is the home of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa, one of the largest group of uncontacted people on Earth.

Their choice to refuse contact with outsiders is protected under international law.

❌ By destroying their lands, the Indonesian government and mining companies are violating this right and threatening the very existence of an entire people.

⚠️ 100 complaints, zero answers: Volkswagen’s carbon project in Tanzania ⚠️

A Volkswagen joint venture called VW Climate Partner is developing a carbon credit project on nearly 1 million hectares of Maasai land in northern Tanzania – without their free, prior, and informed consent. Over 100 complaints have been filed. A Maasai delegation was turned away by Volkswagen, when they traveled all the way to Germany. VW’s sustainability report mentions none of it.

At today’s Volkswagen AGM, a Maasai woman said it plainly: “Your climate protection efforts must not come at the expense of the Maasai’s rights. I call on Volkswagen once again: stop the project. The project severely restricts Indigenous land-use practices and strips local communities of their decision-making power.”

This is what looks like in practice.

It’s , and today our focus is on the Shompen.

The uncontacted Indigenous Shompen survived the 2004 tsunami — one of the world’s deadliest natural disasters. Now, a man-made killer is coming for their island, Great Nicobar.

The Indian government wants to replace the Shompen’s unique rainforest with the ‘Hong Kong of India’: featuring a mega-port, a city, an airport, a power station, a military base, an industrial park, and a population the size of Las Vegas.

The plan is nothing less than genocidal.

Did you know the Indian government wants 1 million tourists to visit Great Nicobar every year? And at the same time, Prime Minister Modi tries to justify the plan by saying it’s vital for national defense. We’re not sure exactly how 1 million tourists solves the defense problem… but we’re sure that if this plan goes ahead, it’ll be the end of the Shompen.

There’s just no way they can survive without their forest.

Many of the Shompen are uncontacted, but they’re not in this fight alone. Political opposition in India is growing - so now is the time to take action. Stand with them, and write to the government to tell them to drop this disastrous project: svlint.org/ShompenFB

“Because of contact I lost my whole family. I’m the only survivor.”

When Atxu was a child, he lived uncontacted in the Brazilian Amazon with his family. But then he was forcibly contacted, and adopted by a non-Indigenous family. He never saw his family or people again.

It wasn’t easy for him to adapt to life outside the forest, and he stresses how important it is to respect uncontacted peoples’ decision to reject contact.

🏹 This , follow us to learn more about uncontacted peoples around the world, and how you can support them in their fight.

This week is !

There are Indigenous peoples across the world who reject contact with outsiders – and that choice must be respected. That’s why this week we want to make clear: They are not alone. They are surrounded by the abundance of their forests and supported by Indigenous neighbors and the international community.

🗣️ As Indigenous leader Davi Kopenawa from the Yanomami people says: “They have the same blood as us. (…) We all breathe the same air. They are suffering just like we are.”

Swipe right to read Davi’s full message. 💚

This , we stand with them. Will you too?

A few weeks ago, Survival and Canopee called out Eramet at their AGM to warn shareholders that the French company is threatening the survival of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people in Indonesia.

🪧 In the run up to the AGM, you:
→ sent 800+ emails to the French Minister of Economy
→ commented and tagged over 200 times

👉 We’re not letting this go. We’re keeping up the pressure, so that Eramet’s shareholders don’t give them more support while they’re destroying the lands and lives of the Hongana Manyawa.

We’ll keep you updated on next steps ✊ Follow us!

We're told conservation saves nature. No one tells you who it destroys. 🔥

Behind the tales of sustainability, climate friendliness and ways to save biodiversity – there is a multi-billion dollar industry built on a lie: that land must be emptied of people to be protected.

Indigenous peoples are not obstacles. They are the world's most effective conservationists.

Communities like the Baka know this. They've always known it. But they are being evicted, abused, and erased – by NGOs, by governments, by an industry that profits from their eviction.

This is colonialism with a green logo.

🤝 It's time to rethink everything. Share if you agree.
