As we wrap up Community Centre Week, we're celebrating this year's theme: JOY. 💛

What better way to celebrate than with a project that has brought so much creativity, connection and love to our community?

As Caxton turns 50, our Recycle & Stitch Studio has been creating a colossal quilt that will soon cover the side of our amazing building. The beautiful tumbling blocks design has been a true labour of love, made possible through the dedication of our incredible volunteers, led by Recycle & Stitch Lead Kevan and Creative Lead Rose.

The quilt panels are now being sewn together, ready to be installed over the coming weeks—and we can't wait to see it transform the building.

For us, this project perfectly captures the joy, creativity and community spirit that have filled Caxton over the past 50 years. It's a celebration of the people who have loved this building, made memories here, and continue to make it a place where everyone belongs.

Here's to 50 years of community—and many more to come. 💙🧵✨

Our "Caxton Colossal Quilt" project to celebrate our community centres 50th anniversary is well underway.

This weekend we began to arrange the tumbling block section of the quilt that will eventually cover the St Johns Way facia of our community centre building.

This amazing community sewing project is inspired by the amazing large scale patchwork installations from the wonderful who guided our creatives .

Phase 2 is sewing all the carefully cut pieces together into panels that will be attached to our wonderful Brutalist style building that was completed in 1976!
