A vibrant community centre in North Islington, with a variety of groups and projects all working towards a more cohesive and inclusive community. With projects from archery to knitting, Caxton House aims to offer a place where anyone can come and relax or get involved.

🎉 Looking back on our 50th Birthday Celebrations! 🎉

As we start to head into October, we wanted to take a moment to look back on the amazing final day of Caxton House’s 50th birthday celebrations on Sunday 30th August!

What better way to celebrate 50 years of community than with a fantastic Family Fun Day filled with laughter, activities, music, food and plenty of smiles!

We were also delighted to welcome a special visit from the Mayor of Islington, who joined us to help celebrate this incredible milestone and cut our Caxton House Cake.

And of course, the excitement continued with a visit from the fire service and their fire engine.

It was a wonderful day bringing our community together and celebrating 50 years of Caxton House — made possible by our amazing volunteers, staff, partners, supporters and everyone who came along to celebrate with us.

Here’s to 50 years of memories, friendships, creativity and community — and to many more years to come!

What an incredible way to celebrate our 50th birthday!

We were thrilled to enjoy an amazing free aerial performance by the talented students and tutor of . Their creativity, skill and energy made the celebration truly unforgettable.

From creative craft activities and the unveiling of our beautiful mosaic, to a wonderful local artists’ exhibition, sharing local stories and enjoying some truly spectacular performances from the talented Scarabeus aerial students and tutor — Caxton House's first day of birthday celebrations was a triumph.

And even the rain couldn’t stop the celebrations!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, shared their stories, showcased their talents and helped make this milestone weekend so special. 💙

SMALL WORLDS OF ARCHWAY

What happens when you take the streets, shops and landmarks of North Islington… and make them tiny?

Over 12 weeks, our wonderful Caxton House Craft Group created a beautiful collection of handmade dioramas celebrating the places that make our local community home.

From St John’s Church and Islington Boxing Club, to Dick Whittington’s Cat and the Second Chance charity shop, each miniature scene tells a story about the people and places around Archway.

The project was inspired by artist Tirzah Garwood (1908–1951), whose intricate paper and mixed-media miniature scenes captured the beauty and charm of everyday English life.

It felt particularly fitting to create Small Worlds of Archway as part of Caxton House’s 50th Anniversary celebrations — bringing people together, sharing skills, having a cuppa and a laugh, and celebrating the community around us.

Every diorama was made by hand using paper, card, watercolour and paint. For some of our makers, it was their first time working with a scalpel, creating 3D structures and learning the techniques needed to build a miniature world.

And even the frames have a story!
Each piece is displayed in a second-hand picture frame, transformed into a box frame — giving old objects a new purpose while creating new stories from familiar streets.

The result is a truly special collection that celebrates Archway in miniature.

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration is almost here!

As we get ready to celebrate this special milestone this Sunday, here’s a little preview of what you can expect!

There’ll be arts & crafts, fair games, delicious food, activities and lots more for everyone to enjoy.

Come along, bring your family and friends, and help us celebrate 50 amazing years together!

The big weekend is nearly upon us!

Here’s a little preview of what you can expect this Saturday.

Join us for a wonderful celebration of art, creativity and local heritage, including a visit from Gunnersaurus and the unveiling of our fantastic community mosaic.

We’ll have exhibitions to explore, arts and crafts activities to get involved with, a live mural painting, and of course, plenty of tea, coffee and homemade cakes to enjoy!

It’s set to be a fantastic day, so come along, get creative and celebrate our amazing local community with us!

We’re getting some new ink!

To celebrate our 50th birthday, we’re delighted to be collaborating with Co-Creative Connection on a vibrant new mural alongside our wall on St John’s Way — with two designs voted upon by local residents and community groups.

The mural will feature beautiful cultural fabric patterns generously donated by local residents, woven into some of the letters. Each pattern brings its own story, heritage and identity — coming together to represent the many people, cultures and experiences that make up our community.

We’re getting closer to our 50th Anniversary Celebration!

This weekend, we’re marking 50 incredible years with a spectacular two-day celebration — and we can’t wait to share it with you!

From special moments and celebrations to plenty of memories, fun and surprises, it’s going to be a weekend to remember!

IT’S UP!

The colossal quilt — featuring tumbling blocks and community squares — is finally up on the side of Caxton House Community Centre!

After a full three-day weekend of determination, teamwork and a cherry picker, we made it happen. Grills came off, pipes were measured, and more than 300 eyelets, screws and washers were fitted to get this enormous piece of community artwork safely into place.

Every unrolling was captured on video, and the whole process has been a true feat of community dedication, creativity and love.

One resident said: “It reminds me of my mum, who took up quilting in the 70s.”

And that is exactly what we hoped this project would achieve — bringing memories, stories and generations together as we celebrate 50 years of our community.

The colossal quilt will be on the side of Caxton House for the next four weeks, including our celebration weekend.
