A landmark celebration of Indian classical dance and music will take place at Queen Elizabeth Hall this July, as Sujata Banerjee Dance Company (SBDC) and Geetanjali Academy of Fine Arts Limited (GAOFAL) present Hemantika and Beyond as part of Southbank’s South Asian Sounds Festival.
The event reflects a shared artistic vision led by Jayeeta Ghosh (Music) and Sujata Banerjee (Dance), exploring Indian classical traditions through both established repertoire and contemporary interpretation. The production emphasises continuity across generations, with a focus on participation, heritage and evolving practice.
Under the artistic direction of Sujata Banerjee MBE, 75th anniversary year of Queen Elizabeth Hall is celebrated by a masterpiece choreography by 75 intergenerational dancers with a vocal symphony by 50 singers in a large-scale collaboration that combines professional artists with community performers.
The production also marks the return of Sujata Banerjee to the stage after a ten-year hiatus, in the lead-up to her 70th birthday.
