Sujata Banerjee Dance Academy is a renowned Kathak school, lead by one of most experienced and active Kathak dance practitioners in the UK.

The dance academy has regular weekly classes:
Wednesdays 5pm - 9pm
Saturday 9am - 4pm

NEW Adult Beginner Kathak Classes !

Following popular demand, we’re excited to offer adult beginner Kathak classes across Finchley and Harrow!

It’s never too late to start dancing. No previous experience is needed — just bring your enthusiasm.

We’re sharing a clip from our recent performance at the Southbank Centre, where 75 dancers took to the stage — and some of the dancers you see had only started learning Kathak six months earlier!

At SBDC, we believe learning goes beyond the classroom. Alongside structured training, we offer our students performance opportunities to build confidence, grow as dancers and experience the excitement of performing on stage.

1 day to go! ✨

Alongside our spectacular performance featuring 75 dancers and 50 singers, we’re excited to present a variety of beautiful pieces throughout the evening.

One of these is Raag Hemant 🍂—a traditional autumnal composition performed by three SBDC dancers: Tulani Kayani-Skeef (), Showmi Das (), and Jaina Modasia ().

75 Kathak dancers. 75 years of . One unforgettable celebration. ✨

This Sunday 5th July, we’re bringing together 75 Kathak dancers across generations to celebrate 75 years in a powerful performance at the Southbank Centre. From emerging young artists to seasoned performers, this intergenerational production honours the richness, legacy, and evolving future of Kathak.

We’ll be dancing to music performed by 50 singers from GAOFAL , bringing together the energy of live vocals and the artistry of Kathak in a truly unique collaboration.

Join us for an evening of rhythm, storytelling, and community as we celebrate this milestone together.

Tribute to Padma Shri Sri Pratap Pawar MBE

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Padma Shri Sri Pratap Pawar MBE, a towering figure in Kathak.

Pratapji played a pivotal role in the development of Kathak in the UK, particularly from the 1980s onwards. He was incredibly passionate about the art form and was not only an accomplished performer but also a dedicated guru who inspired and nurtured generations of students.

His gurubhakti was legendary. A Maharashtrian who came to Delhi to study Bharatanatyam, he fell in love with Kathak and devoted himself to his guru, Pandit Birju Maharaj. He revered Maharajji deeply and carried that devotion into every class he taught, every performance he gave and every stage he graced.

I had the privilege of sharing the stage with him on several occasions in London. I am sharing a photograph from our performance during the iconic Coming of Age project at the Southbank Centre, celebrating the new millennium. It is a memory I will always cherish.

My heartfelt tribute to a remarkable artist, teacher and human being. My deepest condolences go to his family, students, disciples and all those whose lives he touched.

May his soul rest in peace.
