Sutton Black History Group

Sutton Black History Group A voluntary org. promoting awareness & understanding of Black cultural heritage & its historical and prevailing influence on the local & wider community.

Established in 2009 as Black History Month Sutton (BHMSutton), the initial aim of the group was in celebrating African Caribbean culture in the local community by putting on a series of vibrant events throughout the month of October (Black History Month) in order to inform and educate on the achievements of the African diaspora. The group name was changed to Sutton Black History Group (SBHG) in 20

12 and while we continue to promote and celebrate BHM as an opportunity to share the vast contributions made and to demonstrate pride and respect in our diverse and multifaceted cultural heritage, there is now a wider agenda of working with the local community, in particular schools and colleges, to foster progressive partnerships and facilitate inclusiveness.
