✨ A New Rotary Year... A New Chapter Begins! ✨

The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood has officially kicked off a new Rotary year, with President Sandra Parnell taking the chair at the club's first meeting hrld on Tuesday 28th July 2026.

Sandra welcomed members and shared her vision for the year ahead as the club discussed an exciting programme of community events, fundraising activities, and projects that will make a real and lasting difference, both here in our local community and across the world through Rotary's international work.

A long-standing and dedicated Rotarian, Sandra is passionate about serving others and strengthening the friendships that make Rotary so special. Her enthusiasm and commitment set the tone for what promises to be a busy and rewarding year.

For many years, the Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood has been supporting local charities, schools, young people, community groups, and international humanitarian projects. This year will be no different as members continue to live by Rotary's motto of Service Above Self.

The latest Rotary Magazine features an article about a fund raising event for local charitable causes which our club participate in recently.

Ten Rotary clubs joined forces for a sponsored walk in Canons Park, London, raising funds for local foodbanks, hospices, ShelterBox and End Polio Now.

🎶 A Wonderful Finale to the Meadow Park Bandstand Concert Series 🎶

The final Meadow Park Entertainment Arena Bandstand Concert of the season saw The Watford Band, under the expert direction of Ian Graves, entertain visitors with a lively and varied programme on a beautiful afternoon in the park on Sunday 19th July 2026.

The band was warmly welcomed by Cllr Linda Smith - Deputy Mayor of Elstree & Borehamwood , before treating the audience to an enjoyable selection of music that provided the perfect soundtrack for a relaxing summer afternoon.

This annual concert series organised by The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood, in partnership with Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council, whose funding makes these popular community concerts possible.

A special thank you goes to Norman Shuker and Andrew Grady, who organise the bands and ensure everything is in place by providing the chairs for each of the four concerts.

On-the-day support was provided by Rotary members Sam Sam Sammy C Covill, Immediate Past President George Carr and Radhika Settipalli, whose help ensured another successful event.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support this year's concerts.

Our final summer brass bandstand concert is this coming Sunday 19th July in the Meadow Park Entertainment Arena when we welcome back The Watford Town Band at 3pm. Fingers crossed for one more Sunday of glorious sunshine, ice cream and traditional music played on the unmistakable sound of Brass ! 🔔 Rotary Handover Evening 🔔

On Tuesday 14th July, the club held their handover event where members thanked outgoing President George Carr for a fantastic year of service before welcoming Sandra Parnell as our new Club President. George reflected on a successful year in which the club helped raise just under £3,000 for his chosen charities, The Stroke Association and Prostate Cancer UK.
In his final official duty as President, George, together with Past District Governor Adrian Faiers, presented Special Recognition Awards to Nick Male, Sasha Capocci, Pat Strack, Andrew Grady, and Sam Covill, with special awards also presented to Kerry Carr and Ann Shuker for their outstanding support.
Past District Governor Adrian Faiers also presented some special District awards to our Foundation Chair Sam Sammy C Covill, for the clubs continued support for the Rotary Foundation charity and for hosting a sponsored student over several years.
Additionally he presented a long service award for 25 years Rotary service to Peter Wong Morrow.
In her first address as President, Sandra asked members to support her chosen charity, The Tuesday Elstree and Borehamwood Dementia Club, founded by Rotarians around 14 years ago.
Together, we look forward to another year of making a difference in our community.
The evening also saw Pat Strack enrolled as President Elect.
Congratulations to everyone, and here's to another successful Rotary year! 💙💛

A sucessfull brass band concert in Meadow Park Entertainment Arena today, Saturday 5th July. This was our second concernt of this years set and we welcomed the fantastic sound of the very local "Borehamwood Band ". The event was introduced by Cllr Tushar Kumar, Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council. As always special thanks must go to our concert co-ordinator the one and only Rtn Andrew Grady who even played in the concert . A vote of thanks also go to Erika Grady, Rtn Norman Shuker, Rtn Sam Covill, President George Carr and all others who helped with the setup. A number of well known pieces were played including All That Jazz from Chicago and The Floral Dance.

A vote of thanks also go to Erika Grady and Rtn President George W Carr, Rtn Norman Shuker, Sam Covill and Clive Butchins. A number of well known pieces were played including the theme from The Dambusters, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance, The Muppet show theme, Ghostbusters theme. Local Tv/Film fans will know that both The Dambusters was filmed at Elstree Studios in 1955 and The Muppet Show at The ATV studios in Clarendon Road in the 1970's.

We were delighted to recieve the end of year presentation from our 2025-26 Global Scholar Satomi Suzuki about her one year placement in London at the London School of Economics. Satomi brought us all up to date on her adventures both professional and personal. President George Carr presented Satomi with a book by local historian, the late, Paul Welsh MBE which details the history and life of Elstree Studios. This book was kindly donated to us by Elstree and Borehamwood Museum. A further exciting suprise was President George Carr presenting Rtn Irmine Mason with a prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship award in recognition of the sterlling work Irmine has and continues to do for our club espeically in relation to Environmental and Vocational developments. A fantastic fun evening all round !
