Studios Rotary Club Assembly Looks Ahead to 2026-27

Members of The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree & Borehamwood gathered on Tuesday 9th June for the Club Assembly, an important meeting that provided an opportunity to look ahead to the new Rotary year beginning on 1st July.

During the evening, members heard from the incoming Club President, Sandra Parnell who outlined her vision and aspirations for the club during 2026-27.

Her plans focus on strengthening fellowship, supporting local communities, growing membership, and continuing the club's proud tradition of service both locally and internationally.

The Assembly also introduced Rotary International's new presidential message for 2026-27, "Create Lasting Impact", announced by incoming Rotary International President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola.

The message encourages Rotarians around the world to work together to make meaningful and sustainable differences within their communities and beyond.

It builds upon the 2025-26 message, "Unite for Good", and challenges clubs to ensure that their projects and activities leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Members enjoyed a positive and forward-looking discussion about the opportunities ahead and how the club can continue to make a difference in Elstree and Borehamwood and the wider community.

The evening demonstrated the enthusiasm and commitment of members as they prepare for another exciting year of Rotary service under the banner of Create Lasting Impact.

Rotary District Sports Awards 2026

The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood were delighted to attend the Rotary District 1130 Sports Awards 2026, celebrating another year of friendly competition, fellowship and sporting achievement across London Rotary clubs.

The club was especially proud to be recognised as Runners-Up in the Ten Pin Bowling competition, a fantastic achievement in what is always a highly competitive district sporting programme. Rotary District 1130's annual sports events bring together clubs from across London, with competitions including ten pin bowling, table tennis, quizzes, darts and other sporting challenges, all promoting friendship and fellowship.

The award reflects the enthusiasm, teamwork and determination shown by our members throughout the competition and highlights the strong spirit of participation that exists within our club.

Congratulations to everyone who represented the club during this year's sporting events. Whether competing, supporting or organising, every member played a part in making the season such a success.

Here's to building on this achievement and aiming even higher in the 2027 District Sports competitions!

On a scorching Tuesday evening, members of The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood were privileged to welcome stroke survivor Aatish Pattni to our meeting on 26th May 2026.

Aatish shared his powerful and emotional story of how his life changed dramatically after suffering a stroke in 2017, together with his inspiring rehabilitation journey and determination to rebuild his life.

His presentation deeply moved everyone present.

Following the talk, members donated over £110 in support of stroke recovery charities and awareness initiatives.

The evening also included planning for a busy summer programme of community and fundraising events.

At a recent NSPCC fundraising lunch on Wednesday 20th May 2026, George W.H.A. Carr, President of The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood, in the presence of the Mayors of both Hertsmere and Elstree and Borehamwood gave an incredibly moving and courageous speech.

George bravely shared his personal experience with us, speaking openly about the mistreatment he suffered from his parents.

It took immense courage to tell such a deeply personal story in front of everyone. His honesty, strength, and willingness to speak first-hand about adversity and resilience left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.

George’s life journey is one of determination and community service. Having spent part of his childhood growing up in a Dr Banardo's children’s home, with support from the NSPCC.

He has dedicated much of his life to supporting others, working with young people, music, and community initiatives, alongside his long-standing involvement with Rotary and local charitable work.

George would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Ann Goddard, the Chairman of the local branch of the NSPCC for over 50 years of tireless dedication, commitment, and support to this cause. Her service has inspired so many and continues to make a difference.

He also expressed sincere thanks to the NSPCC committee who organised the fundraising lunch which George spoke at, for all their hard work in making the event such a success, especially to fellow Rtn. Sasha Cappoci for her dedication, care, and energy you put into organising the event at the Manor Hotel.

Additionlly George would also like to thank Rtn. Andrew Grady, for his unstinting support in the technical arrangements at this event.

A fantastic evening of music and community spirit was enjoyed on Sunday 17th May as internationally acclaimed soprano Janice Watson performed in concert at All Saints Church, Borehamwood in support of Club President George Carr’s chosen charities, Stroke Association and Prostate Cancer UK, raising around £600 for these causes.

Organised by the Elstree Mozart Players together with The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree & Borehamwood, the concert also featured outstanding performances from oboist Barry Solomon and violinist Serena Leader accompanied by Derek Holland.

Special guests included Hertsmere Mayor Cllr Al Collins and Mayoress Rev Louise Collins, together with Cllr Tushar Kumar and the new Vicar of All Saints, Rev Steven Young.

A huge thank you to all Rotary members and volunteers whose hard work helped make the evening such a memorable success.

President Elect Sandra Parnell thanked Norman & Ann Shuker for hosting members at Schopwick Place and for a fantastic evening of fellowship, friendship and conversation. 🧀🍷

🌳👟 On Sunday 10th May, Rotarians took part in the North-West London Rotary 5K Sponsored Walk at Canons Park, Edgware.

Representing the Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood were Andrew and Erika Grady, who joined fellow Rotarians from across the district to support a number of important charities and humanitarian projects. ❤️

Funds raised from the event will help organisations including Dementia Club UK, Harrow Food Bank and St Luke’s Hospice, as well as Rotary’s 'Shelterbox' plus the Global 'End Polio Now' campaign.

A wonderful day of community spirit, friendship and fundraising in beautiful surroundings — well done to everyone who took part! 👏

🎉 The Rotary Club of the Studios was delighted to support the grand opening of 4-4-2 together office on Saturday 9th May 2026.

The office was officially opened by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor, Dan Ozarow launching their new office facility in Borehamwood.

Founded in 2018, 442 together continues to grow its presence in sports management and athlete development, creating new opportunities within the industry while building a strong base for future success.

Representing Rotary at the event was the President of the Club, Georger Carr highlighting Rotary’s ongoing commitment to supporting local community projects that positively impact young people and families across Borehamwood and Elstree.

Initiatives like this help create opportunities for children to learn, grow and thrive in a safe and welcoming environment. ❤️

Congratulations to John Byrne, Amanda Byrne and their dedicated team for creating such a positive community-focused bringing joy, fun and inspiration to the young people of Borehamwood. 👏

Another productive and enjoyable meeting of The Rotary Club of the Studios & Elstree and Borehamwood chaired by Club President George Carr on Tuesday 27th April 2026.

We were pleased to welcome guests Suresh Bharwaney and Margaret Matchett who spoke about their forthcoming sponsored walk on Sunday 10th May in support of charitable causes.

Members also discussed upcoming events including our Cheese & Wine Evening and the forthcoming concert by internationally renowned soprano Janice Watson in aid of the Club President’s charities for this Rotary year.

A busy few months ahead supporting the local community and worthwhile causes.
