Argentina’s far-right government, led by President Javier Milei, has blamed Indigenous Mapuche communities for the wildfires that have repeatedly devastated Andean Patagonia in recent years.

But judicial investigations have found no evidence to support these claims, despite officials suggesting links to “terrorism”.

One of the key drivers of these fires is the spread of pine monocultures – vast plantations of a single tree species that replace native forests, damage biodiversity and are highly vulnerable to fire.

Far from being a ‘climate solution’, these plantations are another form of extractivism – exploiting forests, water and land while dispossessing Indigenous and rural communities.

As the UK records its hottest ever May day temperature, a landmark climate report warns the UK is ‘built for a climate that no longer exists’. It’s clear: we need urgent action to tackle the climate crisis and protect life as we know it.

Heatwaves are expected to exceed 40C across the UK by 2050, with longer periods of extreme heat causing an additional 10,000 heat-related deaths yearly.

The most vulnerable in society will be hit hardest, with care homes and hospitals unequipped to cope & workers forced to labour in extreme heat.

Still the impacts of climate breakdown are being felt even more intensely across the Global South. Across South and south-east Asia, temperatures are so extreme that informal workers can no longer recover from the heat — battling exhaustion in unbearable conditions.

A just transition away from fossil fuels and towards societies built on publicly-owned renewable energy, strong public services and equality is no longer optional – it’s necessary. Take action now: https://bit.ly/4wPKVVt

Israel has abducted humanitarians from the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters. This is illegal.

Israel is holding our allies Beatriz Moreira (Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens - MAB), a key figure in organising the People’s Summit at the COP30 climate talks, and medic Sameera Mahboobdeen.

Beatriz, Sameera and everyone on the flotilla were trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is still happening.

Israel must free the humanitarians, stop the blockade of Gaza and end the genocide.

Organisers say volunteers abducted after vessels are boarded in international waters as Turkiye condemns 'piracy'.

NEXT has posted record profits over £1 billion for the second year running. CEO Lord Wolfson got a pay packet of £7.4 million. Shareholder pay-outs were £839 million.

One year ago today, NEXT dismissed 1,416 garment workers in Sri Lanka by WhatsApp.

The workers who made NEXT’s profits were effectively punished for unionising and winning a wage increase as small as £10 a month.

If NEXT can pay millions to its CEO and shareholders, it can afford to fix what it broke: restore union jobs.

Today, we went to NEXT stores across the UK to let NEXT know we demand justice for workers.

Read more about the case in our latest article: https://waronwant.org/news-analysis/how-next-removed-its-only-unionised-workforce-sri-lanka?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=WOW&utm_campaign=S26_NEXTNA_19.5.26

‼️NEW research reveals injustice at the heart of football: nine Premier League football clubs are sponsored by corporations that are involved in Israel’s apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur top the table, with the most sponsors complicit in Israel’s atrocities.

The complicit corporate sponsors include AXA, bp, Cisco, The Coca-Cola Company, Expedia/Hotelsdotcom HSBC, Standard Chartered, Oracle and Sony UK.

But every club is indirectly complicit. Barclays UK – which has long enabled apartheid – is the Premier League’s main sponsor.

This is sportswashing: from sponsor branding on shirts to advertising across stadiums, football clubs are promoting these corporations to millions of fans.

It's time for football to show genocide and apartheid the red card.

➡️What is the Nakba?

In 1948, Israel declared itself a state. In the process, over 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed – displaced from violence inflicted by militias, which later became the Israeli military.

On 15 May, we mark this, the Nakba, Arabic for ‘catastrophe’.

But the Nakba hasn’t ended.

In just one year, Israel expelled over 36,000 Palestinians from their West Bank homes, and displaced over 2 million amid its genocide in the Gaza Strip.

It’s not just displacement. Israel fragments Palestinian communities, denies Palestinian human rights and subjects them to a separate legal system – based on racial discrimination.

Palestinians are treated differently in every aspect of daily life. This is apartheid.

The end of apartheid in South Africa was made possible because people like you stood up and took action. Now, we must stand up to Israel’s apartheid: https://secure.waronwant.org/page/191713/petition/1?ea.tracking.id=Facebook&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=WOW&utm_campaign=S26AC_15.05.26

Israel is subjecting Palestinians to apartheid.

Palestinians are treated differently in every aspect of daily life, subjected by Israel to a separate legal system – based on racial discrimination – and deprived of their human rights.

How does this look in practice?
🛑Severe restrictions on Palestinians’ freedom of movement
🚱Unequal access to water and essential services
🚜Israel demolishes Palestinian homes to make way for illegal Israeli settlements
🚨Palestinians live under the constant threat of arbitrary arrest, torture and killing

In January, wildfires tore across the Andean Patagonia in Argentina, burning thousands of hectares of land and devastating communities, forests and ecosystems.

As the fires spread, parts of the Argentine government and media attempted to blame Mapuche Indigenous communities – claims that judicial investigations later disproved. At the same time, the government had cut firefighting budgets by more than 70% in 2025, pushed to weaken environmental protections, and responded to communities with punishment rather than support.

With limited state intervention, local communities stepped in themselves. Volunteer brigades organised to tackle the fires, coordinate across the region, support evacuations, and run workshops on wildfire prevention, suppression, first aid and rescue work.

These are some of the images from that time – from frontline firefighting efforts to community organising in the aftermath of the fires. We accompanied and supported this process alongside the communities leading it.

Israel is holding activists Saif Abu Keshek & Thiago Avila from the Global Sumud Flotilla, who were trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Israel has tortured them – which it does systematically to Palestinians, with impunity.

Free the activists.

Israel must 'immediately and unconditionally' release Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Avila, rights office spokesman says.
