Robes Project

Robes Project The Robes Project supports homeless people by giving them a safe, warm place to sleep, a hot meal and support as they start to to rebuild their lives.

The Robes Project was set up in January 2007 to support homeless people by giving them a safe, warm place to sleep, a hot meal and support as they start to rebuild their lives. This is done by churches offering a temporary night shelter during the winter months from November to April of each year for 15 to 20 guests each night. Approximately 50 people are given support annually. When a guest join

s us we offer them a stay of up to one month when their situation is reviewed. The stability and rest afforded by staying at the night shelter provides a platform for guests to address other issues such as their housing, health, relationships, finances or legal matters. Our charity has over 400 committed volunteers who run the night shelter in teams. Over 22 church venues are willing to host the project on a rota basis. Without the dedication of the volunteers and churches, the whole project would not be able to operate. Annually we run fundraising events. The biggest event is our Sleepout at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge on the last Friday in November. Over the past four years this event has raised over £250,000 which has been crucial to the continuation of the vital work of Robes Project.

For many people, understanding benefits, housing, healthcare or other support services isn't always straightforward especially if it's your first time trying to access them.

Our dedicated Advice Workers are here to listen, guide and support guests every step of the way whether it's completing forms, understanding entitlements or knowing where to turn next. We're here to help make the process a little less daunting and having someone by your side can make all the difference.

Walking through the door can take incredible courage whether it's coming to our Wednesday Club Day Centre, accessing support or arriving at our Winter Night Shelter.

Every guest is given a warm welcome, a listening ear and the reassurance that they don't have to face things alone. From that first visit, we work together to build trust, offer practical support and help rebuild their lives.

With the hot weather continuing and a hot meal at lunch time becoming less appealling, we recently started making fresh deluxe baguettes at our Wednesday Club for our guests.

They have gone down an absolute treat, and it's quite easy to make a second one up for people to take with them.

A reminder to take time for yourself to prioritise relaxation and good mental health. Read a book, watch a movie or take a leisurely walk in nature and embrace a slower pace of life even if just for a moment.

It's another fundraising Friday! It's school holidays, and a perfect time to host a movie night - we're sure there are parents out there willing to donate £10 a head for a movie, some pop corn and a couple of hours of peace!
If you're fortunate enough to have a backyard, you could even do an outside screening.
Every little bit helps when it comes to supporting our guests, and we really appreciate the support.

Every new beginning starts with a single step and together, we're helping to make these new beginnings possible with a new chapter.

We see the courage it takes to begin again and every night of shelter, every friendly conversation and every act of kindness helps create new opportunities and renewed hope.
