If you have a garden, you could be part of something special in 2027.

By joining the National Garden Scheme's open gardens, you'll be part of a national celebration of the organisation's 100 year anniversary of supporting health and nursing charities - including Hospice UK.

If your garden is on the smaller side, you could get together with neighbours on your street or village, to open your gardens together as a community.

Here are some of the great reasons to get involved - and how to take the next step: https://www.hospiceuk.org/support-us/corporate-support/our-corporate-partners/national-garden-scheme/open-gardens-2027

Gardens are extraordinary places for wildlife - whether they're located at a hospice, or simply at your own home.

As one of our biggest supporters, we're spreading the word for [TAG] National Garden Scheme's Big British Wildlife Survey this summer, and asking Hospice UK supporters to help.

The survey's findings will improve national understanding of how gardens support biodiversity in the UK.

Whether you have a garden of any size, an allotment, a balcony or a courtyard - you can get involved and contribute your own findings to the data.

And hopefully, you'll find enjoyment in observing wildlife in your garden and contributing to environmental research.

The Prime Minister is right: palliative care must be fixed as a priority, so everyone can get the care they need.

Nearly 1 in 3 people who need palliative care miss out on the support they need. At the same time, hospices are under increasing financial pressure, with many already cutting frontline services.

This needs to change.

Hospices need fair and sustainable funding so they can provide their expert care to everyone who needs it, free from the constant worry of whether they can afford to keep services running.

Andy Burnham MP has said hospices must be properly funded in response to the Dear Prime Minister campaign led by Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

We welcome the new Prime Minister's response to the campaign highlighting financial pressures at his local hospice, in which he said:

"I know what the Wigan & Leigh Hospice means to families across Makerfield.

👉 "We need to make sure hospices are properly funded and we've also got to face up to the pressures right across care. 👈

Nearly 60% of hospices in England have made or are considering cuts to frontline services, at a time when demand for palliative and end of life care continues to grow. At Hospice UK we’re proud to stand together with Wigan & Leigh Hospice and continue to call for fair funding for hospices.

Today, the UK welcomes a new prime minister, but hospices still face urgent challenges.

Hear directly from Jo Carby, CEO of Andy Burnham's local hospice, Wigan & Leigh Hospice, who has a special message to deliver to the Prime Minister.

Hospices face mounting financial strain, and local communities cannot be expected to shoulder the growing funding gap.

That’s why we’re calling on the government to provide fair and sustainable funding for hospices now.

Follow Hospice UK to keep up with the latest in our Dear Prime Minister series.

What do a pack of wild dogs, an inflatable mattress and a football have in common? 🐶⛺⚽

They’re all part of James Lewis’ adventure as he progresses through one of the most extraordinary challenges the country has seen this year.

The 26-year-old football coach set off from Marrakech on 1 May and has already covered more than 1,500 kilometres on foot as he closes in on the French border.

James is running approximately 30 miles a day, dribbling his football every step of the way, and sleeping on an inflatable mattress under the stars every night. He’s raised more than £40,000 for St Giles Hospice in Staffordshire in memory of his father, David.

James said: “I am so grateful to everyone who has donated and shared my story. It has not been easy, wild dogs, wild boars, rock falls and sleeping under the stars, but every mile I run is for my dad and for St Giles Hospice. I am nearly in France, and I am not stopping now.”

James aims to reach home by 19 July, just in time for the World Cup final. ⚽

We all know how vital hospice care is. But in a time where demand is growing, a lack of sustained funding is causing many hospices across Wales to cut vital services.

The new Welsh government must take urgent action to secure the future of hospices and ensure that every child and adult affected by dying, death and bereavement receives the best possible care.

Hospice UK and Hospices Cymru stand ready to work constructively with the new government and need your support to encourage the Members of the Senedd to take urgent action to secure the future of hospice care in Wales.
