Ramblers - Inner London Area

Ramblers - Inner London Area We represent Walkers and Ramblers across London - we are part of Britain's walking charity the Ramblers.

If you are interested in walking, want to try walking with one of our groups and / or live in London then this is the facebook group for you. The London area is one of many Areas that make up the national organisation of the Ramblers. Although London may not seem like an obvious location for walkers, there are over 5,000 Ramblers members living here, making Inner London one of the most populous ar

eas for walkers to live in the UK. The Thames Path, which runs through our Area, is the most walked path in the country! As well as walking in our own area, including in the very heart of London, we also enjoy excursions in much of South East England, with groups regularly making trips to the Chilterns, South Downs, South Coast, Kent, Essex, Surrey, Hertfordshire, as well as further afield. Almost all the walks put on by the groups are accessible by public transport, be it mainline train or tube. The walks range in length from 2 to 20 miles, with most averaging around 8 to 10 miles. They mainly take place at weekends, when there are usually at least a dozen walks to chose from across the Area's groups. If you would like try one of our walks or find out more information on our groups see links below or visit the Ramblers walks finder site http://www.ramblers.co.uk/groups/groupInfo.php?group=IL

Very sorry to hear this news. Our various groups did a number of led walks on (as near as possible to) the route a few years back and we were pleased to have members of your team join us and talk about the project.
With very best wishes to everyone who has tried so hard for so long to make this amazing thing happen for London.

It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to pause work on the Camden Highline. Thank you for all of your support over the years ❤️

We’ve curated a truly unique lineup for the week ahead. Alongside our premier routes through North, South, and West London, we’re heading to the cinema to celebrate our deep connection to the British landscape.

This week’s highlights include:

* The Northern Link: West Anglian Way. A journey through the quiet corridors of North London and beyond, where the city slowly gives way to expansive sky and woodland.
* The Urban Secret: The By-Ways of Kennington. A masterclass in "hidden London," discovering the tucked-away squares, historic alleys, and community spirit of SE11.
* The Royal Loop: Richmond Circular. A classic for a reason. Experience the grand vistas of Richmond Hill and the wild, deer-filled stretches of London’s largest Royal Park.
* Special Event: "Our Land" Film Screening. Join us at the Garden Cinema for a powerful cinematic exploration of the history and future of land access in Britain. An essential watch for anyone who loves the trails we walk.

The best part? You get to stay in the moment. Our expert leaders handle the navigation and the pace, leaving you 100% free to focus on the views, the conversation, and the community.

We have a full schedule of events and walks happening all week long. Don’t miss out.

Ian has been out and about again on the Green Chain Walk, this time leading a group of fellow volunteers who conducted a thorough survey of Sections 4 & 4a. Whilst they were happy to see that most of the waymarking was present and correct, they did identify some rotated posts as well as a number of signs that are in need of cleaning, repair or repainting.

Our volunteers are continuing to survey the Green Chain Walk, with plans to walk Sections 5, 11a & 12 soon.

Huge thanks to Peter Fidczuk for the photos.

Our volunteers Alan & Peter had a productive walk around Section 8 of the London Loop earlier this week with Neil Maitland Walker, who you may remember is an award-winning litter picker and has previously joined Alan on earlier sections of the Loop, collecting litter as they went.

Whilst walking Section 8, they collected a dozen supermarket-sized bags of litter, mostly from along the A3. This was on top of another volunteer-led litter pick along the route a few weeks previously — highlighting just how quickly litter builds up along this section of the Loop.

They've reported that the quality of the paths along the route has improved significantly, largely down to the efforts of local councillor Mike Massimi.

They also replaced a number of the specially made vinyls that incorporate the Hogsmill River Walk and Thames Down Link

The long weekend is behind us but we’ve still got plenty of great walks for the week ahead, perfectly balancing the wild heights of North London with the modern architecture of the Docklands and a milestone for our favourite orbital path.

This week’s highlights include:

* The Heath Classic: Hampstead Heath. A deep dive into London’s most iconic wild space. Expect sweeping city vistas, hidden woodland trails, and the best fresh air in the capital.
* The Anniversary Stretch: London Loop (Section 2). We’re continuing our 25th-anniversary celebrations on the trail between Bexley and Petts Wood. It’s a stunning section of ancient woodland and quiet glades that defines the Loop’s legacy.
* The Docklands Loop: Canary Wharf Circular. A sharp, modern trek through the heart of the skyscrapers, utilizing secret Thames-side paths and historic dock basins.

The best part? You get to stay in the moment. Our expert leaders handle the navigation and the pace, leaving you 100% free to focus on the views and the conversation.

We have a full schedule of walks happening all week long. Come help us celebrate 25 years of exploring London.

Did you know that 30 years ago today, the first section of the London Loop opened?

On May 3, 1996, a ceremony was held at Farthing Downs to open the first complete section of the Loop and what would later become Section 6, stretching from Coulsdon South to Banstead Downs.

Very little information about the launch exists online—if you have any photos or memories from that day, we’d love to hear from you!

While 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the Loop as a complete route, we thought it was worth celebrating where London’s most iconic long-distance path began.

As I read the draft of our latest London Loop, Capital Ring, Green Chan Walk and Green Link Walk project report, I’m struck by both how far we’ve come since we set this project up - and by what we’ve achieved in the last year alone.

Also by the sentence about disruption to the Capital Ring “while work is carried out to restore the dinosaurs”.

London is brilliant, isn’t it?
