🔥🌲 Scout & Explorer Summer Camp – Botany Bay, South Wales 🌲🔥

We’ve just returned from an incredible week away with around 30 Scouts, Discovery Explorer Scouts, adult volunteers – and one very adventurous Cub Scout – at Botany Bay campsite in beautiful South Wales!

The week was packed with adventure, challenges, and unforgettable memories:

🧗‍♀️ Zip wire, Go Ape, rock climbing, gorge walking, paddleboarding, archery, tomahawk throwing – you name it, we did it!
🚵 Mountain biking in the stunning Forest of Dean
🥾 The Explorer Scouts completed a tough two-day expedition in the Brecon Beacons
🪦 The Scouts visited the fascinating Big Pit coal mine for a real step back in time
🔥 Evenings were filled with wide games, campfires, and our Great Scout cook-off

Massive thanks to all our adult volunteers who made this camp possible – your energy and enthusiasm made the week unforgettable.

What an incredible weekend at the 4th Lewisham (1st Hither Green) Cubs and Scouts Spring Camp!

The Cubs had an action-packed time — playing 'The Traitors', learning orienteering, doing zip line, building shelters, and even making their own dinner, smash burgers. A great mix of adventure, teamwork, and tasty rewards!

Our Scouts headed off on a hike to put their navigation skills to the test — a great opportunity to build confidence and independence out on the trail.

In true Scouting style, we ended the day around the campfire.

‘Claudia’ Elle completed the finale of The Traitors around the campfire — well done to the Faithful, who won after a tense final round table.

We rounded off the night with campfire songs and great company.

We were also thrilled to welcome Tania and her boys from the 17th Forest Hill Ukrainian Scouts — thank you so much for joining us and lending a hand over the weekend.

And finally, a massive thank you to all our brilliant volunteers who made the weekend such a success. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm make all the difference.

4th Lewisham Scouts and Discovery Explorers came together for an amazing long weekend of camping at Frylands Wood. We hiked to Downe, built and slept in shelters, cooked over fires, soaked in the nature and surroundings, and wrapped it all up with climbing at Harrison’s Rocks — with plenty of time to chill and laugh around the campfire.

Huge congratulations to three of our members who completed their Chief Scout’s Gold Award — a fantastic achievement and well deserved!

🌄🧭 Scouting Adventure in Snowdonia! 🧭🌄

This weekend, a group of dedicated South London Scout adult volunteers took to the rugged landscapes of Snowdonia for an exhilarating mountain navigation training! Led by the incredible Al from 4th Lewisham (1st Hither Green) Scout Group, the team tackled steep climbs, unpredictable weather, and challenging terrain—all to sharpen their skills in map reading, compass work, and mountain safety.

From navigating steep ridges to finding hidden routes, the weekend was all about learning, teamwork, and resilience—essential skills to pass on to the next generation of Scouts! Huge thanks to Al for sharing his expertise and to everyone who took part.

🚀 Scouting isn’t just about the young people—it’s about our amazing volunteers, always learning and pushing boundaries too!

Well done and thank you to the Beavers for raising £300 for the Lewisham Foodbank (as part of your money skills badge).

As a result, we were able to donate 218kg to the warehouse today, where we spent the morning packing soap, making up food parcels, restocking shelves, and sorting out our donation.

Thank you to the Lewisham Foodbank for hosting us.

Great accomplishment from the Explorers and Leaders!

Scouts and Volunteers from Catford have been praised by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields for completing the Southern 50 30Km challenge hike event. This year’s event celebrates 45 years since the first Southern 50, with Scouts taking on routes passing through the counties of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire. The annual Southern 50 Event is a prestigious challenge hike, one of the longest running events of its type in the UK. The event is a test of good orienteering skills as well as teamwork. The route is not disclosed until the day of the event so all teams entering have the same chance of winning a trophy.

Chief Scout Dwayne Fields said: “The team from Catford showed real determination to finish the 50KM course, I was delighted to meet them at the finish to hear about the skills they had learnt and challenges they had overcome.

"All the young people and volunteers involved in the event are a great example of what’s brilliant about Scouts. They worked as a team, had fun and learnt new skills along the way."

Thank you Apple Bromley for a fantastic ‘make your own emoji’ session. Our squirrel scouts had a fantastic time. A creative and talented bunch, it’s the quietest we have seen them in a long time. Thank you to David for making this a fun session and creating for us our own scout emoji! He inspired them so much one of our squirrels created a portrait of him 😂. .
