Daniel* fled persecution because of who he is.

When he first applied for asylum in Greece, fear and years of silence made it impossible for him to speak openly. Unable to tell his story, his claim was rejected.

Then, for the first time, he had legal support and trusted interpretation from NGO . He could finally tell his story - clearly, safely, and fully.

His second application was successful. Daniel is now a recognised refugee in Greece.

Many LGBTQ+ asylum seekers face the similar barriers. Without the right support, fear and silence can stand in the way of protection.

THEY WOUKD LIKE TO SEEK ASYLUM IN GREECE. WE HAVE REPORTED THEIR ARRIVAL TO THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES AND CALL ON THEIR IMMEDIATE RESCUE AND SAFE TRANSFER TO A CAMP (CCAC), OR HOSPITAL WHEN THEY CALL 112 - The EMERGENCY LINE FOR EUROPE.

We’ve been asked to post on socials by these people who have asked for their faces to be blurred. Posting here increases the people’s chances of survival, remaining in Greece and not being unlawfully, and potentially violently, pushed back across the border to Turkey.

I miss sharing chai.
I miss listening to people’s stories.
I miss welcoming those who arrive in Greece after risking everything to survive.

Not because people aren’t there, but because the system now keeps them hidden. Behind walls. Behind gates. Keeping them silenced.

But our incredible partners remain. Small grassroots organisations doing everything they can from legal support, to food, dignity and community.

They aren’t extra support. They are the support.

At forRefugees, we exist to back them in the moments that matter most - directing funding quickly and flexibly, wherever the need is greatest as situations change.

In Calais and Dunkirk, evictions are a cruel reality of life. Evictions that take away shelter from people seeking a better life. Evictions that seize the few belongings people have left. Evictions that hold absolutely no regard for the human lives behind the tents they destroy.

This is the daily reality for people on the move at the Franco-British border. And it is being funded by the British government.

We cannot allow this to carry on unnoticed.
Their stories matter. Their lives matter.

Compassion means creating systems that don’t force people to risk their lives just to seek safety.

With no safe routes to the UK, people seeking asylum are left with impossible choices, and that’s something we can change.

The fear around small-boat arrivals isn’t accidental - it’s manufactured.

Sensational headlines and old colonial narratives turn people seeking safety into a ā€œthreat,ā€ while the vast majority of small boat arrivals wish to integrate and have a positive impact in the UK.

We can choose differently.

- Start with kindness and humanity.
- Call out misinformation.
- Share voices rooted in truth and humanity.

A kinder narrative is possible, and it starts with us.

Behind every journey across the Channel is someone hoping to be safe.

Safe routes to the UK give people a chance to claim asylum without risking their lives crossing the Channel.

Hostile laws do nothing but endanger lives and provide smuggling gangs with the perfect conditions for exploitation and profit.

Our MPs need to know that we care about establishing safe routes into the country for refugees - email yours now using our quick and easy template. Link in comments.

Safe routes save lives.

We share Joanna Lumley’s detest for judging people. Shouldn’t we all try and make the world safe to live in again? Instead of building walls and boundaries to block people out.

Don’t lose the plot! Use your energy for a better world.

We grieve with the Jewish community in Australia, and around the world, after this week’s horrific and targeted attack.

Such acts of violence are driven by hate, not by faith. And they do not speak for entire communities.

Within the fear was extraordinary courage. Not least the incredibly brave man, Ahmed al Ahmed, who tackled one gunman single-handedly to protect others.

We’re sharing this video in unity with our Jewish and Muslim sisters and brothers. Because we know that across faiths and cultures, values are the same - dignity, compassion, love.

We condemn all racist violence and stand for a world where everyone lives, celebrates and believes side by side.

Our Story

For the first time in our history there are more than 70 million people fleeing conflict and oppression worldwide; that is, men, women and children no longer safe living in their own homes.

It is these people we help at Donate4Refugees; innocent victims of war, political upheaval and natural disaster. Many of those we help are stuck in situations far beyond their control unable to move on with their lives and powerless to escape from the extreme poverty of Refugee Camps, squats or homelessness.

Typically people coming to Europe, in search of peace and a new start, find themselves with poor access to shelter, clothes, food, education, mental health, human rights and more. And that’s where the inspiring network of grassroots volunteers, we proudly support, step in improving living conditions, addressing mental health and standing up for human rights.

Donate4Refugees is run entirely by unpaid volunteers meaning your donations go straight to helping those who need it most. And YOU can help us to make a positive impact on people lost in Europe with nowhere to call home. Help us help them in any way you can because… Kindness is Golden.
