Cure Parkinson’s is a leading international medical research charity which funds research that will have an impact on the lives of the 10 million people living with Parkinson’s worldwide, with the hope of an eventual cure for the condition. Everything we do is to move us closer to our goal, of finding new treatments to slow, stop or reverse the progression of Parkinson’s. Thank you for following u

This , we’re highlighting the importance of getting involved with research.

Research progress in Parkinson’s is not possible without people from all backgrounds living with the condition taking part in clinical trials and studies.

Yet it’s not always easy to find the right research opportunity. Platforms like Join Parkinson's Research (JPR) hosted by Research+Me are making this process easier.

This NHS registry means people living with Parkinson’s can register to hear about the latest clinical studies, helping projects find participants and hopefully leading to quicker answers about potential new treatments.

“Cure Parkinson’s is committed in its support for the Neurological Alliance’s report making the case for a Modern Service Framework for neurological conditions. Over 166,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s and 11.8 million people globally. As one of the fastest growing neurological conditions in the world, we know that this figure will keep rising unless urgent action is taken.

We are therefore proud to be standing alongside fellow charities, clinical practices, professional bodies, commissioners, and people with lived experience in a united call for action, to help transform care for all those living with or affected by a neurological condition in the UK.” – Helen Matthews, CEO, Cure Parkinson’s

🚀🌔TODAY, together with organisations across the neuro sector we're launching our report setting out the case for a modern service framework to deliver neuro services fit for the future. Share this post to show your support!

Currently people affected by neurological conditions face waits of up to a year for a first appointment. Care that varies dramatically by postcode. A workforce that cannot meet demand. People ending up in A&E because the community support that would have kept them well simply does not exist. This must change. 🚀 Today we've launched the My Neuro Survey Data Tool!

The tool brings together key findings from My Neuro Survey and NHS waiting times data to show where neurological care is working, where it is falling short and where action can make a real difference.

Your experiences matter. By turning real-life experiences into evidence for change, we can help to put the realities of the neurological community at the centre of efforts to improve care.

Use the new My Neuro Survey data tool to explore neuro care in your area.

What is the link between pesticides and Parkinson’s?

Currently, researchers believe most instances of Parkinson’s are caused by a mixture of genetic and environmental factors. One of these environmental factors is pesticides – chemicals used to control pest populations. Long-term or high exposure to specific pesticides, such as paraquat and rotenone, has been directly associated with a higher risk of Parkinson’s due to their neurotoxic effects.

In our latest webinar on Wednesday 3 June at 5:00 pm BST, Edinburgh University’s Professor Tilo Kunath will be joined by an expert panel to discuss how these chemicals can contribute to the loss of neurons, and what people should be aware of when using or having been exposed to pesticides.
