🎒 Back to school season is here! As children return to the classroom, asthma attacks often spike. The single best step you can take right now is to book an annual asthma review with your GP practice to keep your child safe, healthy & active this school year.

2026 marks 10 years of the NHS England campaign, and we’re celebrating a decade of progress with this year’s anniversary theme: Ten Years of Asking About Asthma!

We’re urging health services, schools, and community organisations across Brent to set ambitious local goals to improve asthma care based on the 4 key asks:

1️⃣ Get an Asthma Action Plan in place

2️⃣ Learn correct inhaler technique

3️⃣ Schedule an annual asthma review (& after every attack)

4️⃣ Consider air quality & lung health impact

🗓 Get Involved – Free Campaign Week Events & Workshops:

• Monday 7 Sept: 10 Years of Asking Webinar

• Tuesday 8 Sept: 'Every Child' Webinar

• Wednesday 9 Sept: 'Every Breath' Webinar

• Thursday 10 Sept: 'Every Neighbourhood' In-Person Workshop

👉 How to take part: Set your own improvement goal, share your progress, and attend a session.

🚨 Brent Foodbank🌱 need our help! 🤲🏾🍴📦

Right now, their shelves are looking worryingly bare 🛒💔

Every week, Brent Foodbank provides emergency food parcels and vital practical support to local individuals and families facing severe financial hardship. We need our community’s help to keep those shelves stocked so no one in Brent faces an empty cupboard!

💙🫂

Urgently Needed This Week:

Tinned meat & tinned fish 🥫

Long-life milk (UHT) & fruit juice 🥛🧃

Tinned vegetables & tinned tomatoes 🌽

Pasta sauces & rice 🍝

Essential toiletries (toilet roll, soap, toothpaste) 🧼🧻

How You Can Help:

Donate food: Pick up a few extra non-perishable items during your shop and drop them off at local collection points (including Sainsbury's, Tesco, and ASDA across Brent).

Get others involved: Rally your family, friends, neighbours, workplace, school, or local community group to collect together!

Every donation, big or small, directly helps local people when they need it most.

If you are finding it difficult to process what you’re going through—feeling overwhelmed, anxious, lonely, or stressed—remember that it’s completely okay to shift your attention onto something else for a while. 💙

Here are a few gentle steps that people have found helpful to regain a sense of calm:

✨ Simple ways to shift your focus:
Engage your hands: Try a creative activity like painting, crafting, or journaling to give your mind a break.

Get out into nature: A peaceful walk through Fryent Country Park or Gladstone Park can help ground yourself 🫂

Focus on small routines: Tend to house plants, read a book, or take on a light, calm task at home.

Local Brent Support & Help:

Brent Mind Connecting residents to local well-being groups, practical advice, and peer support across the borough.

Local Community Hubs: Reach out to nearby Brent community spaces and libraries for social connection.

We always recommend speaking to someone you trust about how you're feeling. If you are in crisis or need confidential, 24/7 text support, text 85258 to connect with someone who will listen. 💬 Shout 85258

Did you know that nearly half (47%) of all accidental drownings in the UK happen between May and August? 🌊❌

Stay safe this summer by taking a moment to Stop and Think before getting into the water ⛱️✅

Check for hazards: Watch out for strong currents, tides, hidden depths, and submerged debris.

Enter slowly: Allow your body time to acclimate to cold temperatures, and get out before you start feeling cold.

Stay informed: Always review local water conditions and follow posted safety guidelines.

Skip the inflatables: Never take air mattresses, dinghies, or inflatable toys into open water, as currents can quickly sweep them away.

Keep summer safety top of mind this August and learn more at www.rlss.org.uk/summer-water-safety & check out Royal Life Saving Society UK 🛟

🌡️☀️ Amber and Yellow Heat-Health Alerts in Place (3–5 August) 📍

As temperatures rise across Brent, it’s important to take extra care! Hot weather can be especially tough on:

👴 Older adults

👶 Young children

🩺 Anyone with underlying health conditions - remember that conditions and disabilities are not always visible 💙

🥰We must always lead with kindness 🥰

Let’s look out for one another! 🫂 Check in on neighbours, friends & family who might need a hand staying cool. As a community, we all play a part in keeping Brent safe 💕
