Alliance for Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) Working together to end segregation and promote inclusion within the education system

ALLFIE’s vision is a world where inclusive education is recognised as a right, not a struggle. Inclusive education is not about a disabled student sitting in the back of a mainstream class or lecture feeling excluded. Inclusive education is about a fundamental shift in the existing education system from seeing difference as a problem to be fixed or adapted to celebrating the diversity of learners and providing all necessary supports to enable equal participation.

The SEND Reform consultation closed on 18 May, but this work does not end there. Our collective response will be strong, but this is only the beginning. As the bill moves through Parliament, our movement and our voices must become even stronger. Whether you attended the launch or couldn’t join us the first time, you are very welcome.

ALLFIE Chairperson Navin Kikabahi’s contribution at the Build Inclusion: Educate, Don’t Segregate hybrid event in Manchester and online on 30 April 2026, highlights the reality faced by Disabled young people and the impact of segregation in education:

“We know from our experience, and we know through organisations like GMCDP and ALLFIE, when young people leave that hostile environment of having been segregated, trying to assert our place within our families and within our own communities, we are left behind.”

Illustrator Stephen Lee Hodgkins captures the Build Inclusion: Educate, Don’t Segregate event through live visual minutes, translating key messages and actions into accessible illustrated summaries:

“I am going to try and cover this piece of paper with a sort of doodled summary of the day. So, I try to pull out some key messages and key action points that may be discussed and put with them a few scribbles and doddles, a bit of colour, so you can look at it and it can give you a sense of key points.”

ALLFIE Director Michelle Daley speaks at the Build Inclusion, Educate, Don’t Segregate event in Manchester and online, calling for collective action to challenge exclusion and remake systems through lived experience and solidarity:

“Every time we gather we do more than meet. We mobilise, and we disrupt, we challenge systems built to exclude and segregate us. We are not here to fit into broken spaces. We are here to remake them. This agenda is a commitment to build inclusion, centering lived experience and shifting power.”

ALLFIE ‘Our Voice’ member Umar Aziz Khan speaks at the Build Inclusion: Educate, Don’t Segregate event on 30 April, sharing experience of disability activism, feeling validated, and the importance of young Disabled people shaping education reform:

“This was an excellent platform and I felt validated because prior to joining ALLFIE, I felt like a lot of my experiences and challenges were brushed off and not validated at all. But joining this project has really helped myself and my family and people around me to see that the challenges I face are real, and that there is a way to overcome those challenges. And that’s what we’re working for.”

Inclusive Education is a Human Right | SOCR Day of Action 2026

“Education is a human right. That’s why you should be educated in a mainstream school with the right support. We know that inclusion works but it should be done with the right support. No child should be in isolated and segregated settings” Edmore Masendeke, ALLFIE

At the Save Our Children’s Rights National Day of Action this weekend, we raised our voices to demand a truly Inclusive Education system and challenged reforms that will deepen inequality.

Inclusive Education is a right, not a privilege!
