Come and help your local sea cadet unit by volunteering a few hours a week. We have many different roles on offer and a great group of cadets.

Go in uniform, be a civilian instructor or join the unit management team who help keep the Unit going in the background.

Tonight we had the pleasure of the Distrit Officer Lt Commander Weston who came down to present PO Charles with her PO rank slides and badge after completing all her modules and becoming a fully substantive Petty Officer. PO Charles has recently taken over the reigns at Clapton and Hackney and steps into the role of OIC. We would all like to thank PO Charles for her dedication and commitment to the unit. Congratulations, everyone at the unit is proud of you 👏 👏👏 @

Today is a really sad day for all at Clapton and Hackney Sea Cadets.

We are celebrating the life of Lt Christine Weston who sadly passed away on the 10th April 2026.

Christine has been in charge of our unit since 2018 and helped create an amazing family, inspire those past and present to always push themselves to be whatever they set their mind to, and always be there for everyone in any capacity she could.

With her as our OiC, our unit thrived and truly felt like a second home to many. The impact of her being gone will be felt every day and a parade night won't go by without us thinking of her.

Would like to send a HUGE thank you to PPO Charles, UMT and cadets who have done the unit proud over the last 2 years. Thanks to Father Lee London Area Chaplin for the support you provided to us when we was in need of help.

I know this year the unit has had a rough start with the passing of our OIC Lt Christine Weston. Let's push on and make her proud.

Due to the recent sad news of our OIC Sub Lt Weston passing, PPO Charles stepped up and arranged for .scc and Jen the Chaplin from to come down to our parade night and provide pastoral support to our cadets and staff. The cadets were able to reflect on the good times Chrissy had at the unit and enjoyed some games too. PPO Charles has stepped in and run the Unit while Chrissy was off sick, while only being 20 years old. The Unit can only thank her for all her efforts and we are very proud of her, keep up the good work.

As some people may have already heard, on the 10th April, our OIC, SubLt Christine Weston, sadly passed away. She was a vital part of our unit and always put her all into both our unit and the district. It’s been hard on the staff to process what has happened and some of us would like to share some words about her and her impact.

It is with great sadness that the Officer In Charge of Clapton and Hackney Unit sadly passed away on Friday.

She will be sadly missed by all cadets and staff that have worked with her during her time as the OIC.

It is with great sadness that London Northern District Sea Cadets announces the passing of SLt (SCC) Christine Weston RNR.

Christine has been a key and valued member of the District Staff for many years, as well as a dedicated member of Clapton & Hackney Unit, where she served as Officer in Charge until ill health forced her to step back. Her commitment, kindness, and professionalism have left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her.

She supported and inspired both staff and cadets alike and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Christine was often the reassuring presence on courses, camps, and parades, and at meetings, always offering guidance, care, laughs, and encouragement when it was needed most.

We extend our heartfelt thanks for her years of dedication, service, and the countless young people and adults she helped along the way.

As a District, we send our sincere condolences to all her family, especially our District Officer, Lt Cdr (SCC) Mark Weston RNR.

At this difficult time, we respectfully ask that everyone honours the family’s wishes and allows them the privacy and space to grieve.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those affected by this loss.

This weekend, our cadets took part in our annual Great Tommy Sleepout. The kids slept outside in the cold to raise money for homeless veterans. Se managed to raise £225 for the Royal British Veterans Enterprise.
A massive well done to all!
