London Hearts

London Hearts London Hearts is a registered charity (1180901) We aim to provide defibrillators throughout the UK.

Less than one in ten people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest. We believe that the widespread availability of defibrillators, and the more people willing and able to use them, the better out of hospital cardiac arrest patients outcomes will be. London Hearts provides charitable grants and fundraising support to help communities and organisations obtain a a defibrillator, as well as CPR tra

ining awareness sessions, so that anyone can learn how to save a life. We are working towards a future where nobody is further than 100m away from one of these lifesaving devices, wherever they are in the UK. To find out more about our work or to donate, please visit www.londonhearts.org

Keeping a defibrillator pitchside can save valuable time during an emergency ⚽️

Before training or a match, coaches can check that the device is present, accessible and displaying its ready status.

It’s also helpful to include its location in staff briefings so nobody has to search for it when every second matters.

Keeping your defibrillator ready to use includes checking the electrode pads regularly.

Look for the expiry date printed on the pad packaging and replace them before this date. Pads must also be replaced after they’ve been used.

It’s a small check, but an important one to help make sure your defibrillator is ready in an emergency. ✅

Do you know where your nearest defibrillator is? 📍

Taking a moment to find out now could help you feel more prepared in an emergency.

You can use Defib Finder, check nearby public spaces or ask your local council where the closest one is located. Defibrillators are designed to guide you through each step, so you don’t need medical training to use one.

A little knowledge today could make a life-saving difference tomorrow.

Do you know the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest? ❤️

The two are often confused, but understanding the difference can help you act with confidence when it matters most.

A heart attack is a circulation problem. Blood flow to the heart becomes blocked. The person is usually conscious and may have chest pain, discomfort in the arms or jaw, or feel short of breath. Call 999 and keep them calm and still while you wait.

A cardiac arrest is an electrical problem. The heart suddenly stops pumping. The person will collapse, stop breathing normally and be unresponsive. This is where every second counts: call 999, start CPR and send someone to grab the nearest defibrillator.

Here's the reassuring part: you don't need to be trained to use a defib. Once it's switched on, it talks you through every step and will only deliver a shock if one is needed. Acting fast, even imperfectly, gives someone the best possible chance.

Knowing the difference – and knowing there's a defibrillator nearby – is what turns a bystander into a lifesaver.

☀️ Stay Safe During the UK Heatwave ❤️

Please be aware that hot weather puts extra strain on the heart and the risk of Cardiac Arrest increases. It is therefore important to have a Defibrillator close by.

Remember to:
💧 Stay hydrated.
🌳 Keep cool and avoid the hottest part of the day.
👵 Check in on vulnerable friends, family and neighbours.
📍 Know where your nearest Defibrillator is.

If someone becomes unresponsive and is not breathing normally, call 999, start CPR immediately and use a defibrillator if one is available. Early CPR and defibrillation provide the best chance of survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

🚑 Helping communities access life-saving equipment

Buchan Development Partnership is delighted to see Longside Football Club take delivery of a new mobile defibrillator, thanks to a collaborative funding effort.

When Ricky Cruickshanks approached us for support, we worked with the club to identify funding opportunities and bring together the funding package needed to make the purchase possible.

The project was supported by:
❤️ London Hearts, who provided a £300 grant towards the defibrillator.
❤️ Longside & District Community Council through their SSEN Transmission EGL-2 Micro Grant Fund.
❤️ Shell Small Grant Fund, helping complete the funding package.

Unlike a fixed community defibrillator, this mobile unit can travel with the club, providing potentially life-saving equipment at home matches, training sessions and away fixtures. It brings reassurance not only to players, coaches and supporters, but also to the wider communities the club visits throughout the season.

We are here to help local groups turn ideas into reality by identifying funding opportunities, building partnerships and supporting projects that make a real difference.

Congratulations to Ricky and everyone at Longside Football Club on securing this fantastic community asset, and thank you to all the organisations that helped make it happen.

If your community group has a project that could benefit from funding support, we'd love to hear from you.
