Hospice AID UK is the only UK charity which supports all hospices who apply to us with every penny spent staying in the UK. There is no charge for hospice care and they rely heavily on public funding. We have provided support in all types of ways, whether to help buy specialist equipment, cover hospice running costs, supply emergency funding or in other areas that can be difficult to get funding for. This weekend ... 💜

Somewhere a hospice nurse is making someone a cup of tea. Somewhere a volunteer is sitting with a person who's scared. Somewhere a family is being given a few more peaceful days together than they thought they'd have.

That's hospice care. Thank you for being part of how it keeps going.

A few years back, one of the more unusual requests we received was for handheld fans - for elderly hospice patients during a heatwave. We funded 100 of them.

It's the small things you don't think of that often matter most. A fan. A blanket. An extra cushion.

Difficult news from Queenscourt Hospice in Southport - they've announced they may have to close in 18 months without urgent funding action. They've already halved inpatient beds.

We've supported Queenscourt before (and Queens Court in West Lancs is on our list of hospices we've helped this year).

Saturday thought: somewhere in the UK right now, a family is being looked after by a hospice. The pain is being managed. The conversations are being had. The dignity is being held.

There's a Bill currently working its way through Parliament - the Hospices and Palliative Care Bill - that would place a duty on the Secretary of State to ensure availability of hospice services for everyone at the end of life.

One of the things we've been thinking about a lot recently:

Most people don't realise that hospices are charities. They're not part of the NHS, even though they deliver care the NHS would otherwise have to provide. On average, hospices get only around a third of their funding from the government.

The rest comes from people like you.
