Success to us is not only the sales of artwork, but where that money goes!

Sales directly support Arms Around The Child’s work, reinforcing the residency as a sustainable fundraising mechanism rather than solely a creative initiative. Money from the Arms around The Child Artist Residency has helped to fund:
📝 New canteens and classrooms for the children at Becky’s Foundation and the Christian Atsu School
🤸‍♀️ General running of the school and home, which now have 330 pupils and 74 residents respectively.
👨‍🏫 Plans to further expand the school to improve learning conditions and allow the school to strengthen its Junior High School provision. and ICT facilities!

'We'll always have Paris' 🇫🇷😭 Throwback to Moyo's exhibition in Paris in Autumn 2024 - where Moyo not only displayed some of his 'incroyable' pieces but also those he had created with us on the Arms Around The Child Artist Residency!

On the right is 'Filtration' - created with oil paint, oil stick, pigments, charcoal and canvas.

🗨"This was inspired by being present at the school in Ghana in that very moment. Seeing things beyond myselt. It's about all the things the children lacked, like water, bedsheets, plates, cups, television. The ability to step out of my own bubble and seeing what the kids needed and that I could make a difference."

It was so amazing to see it in full on the walls in Paris! 🧡

A zoom in on the wonderful 'A Gathering of Soul' by Josh Akpor! 🔎

We just wanted to focus in on the gorgeous details on the intricate jewellery worn by those in the piece, reflecting the cultural heritage of the Ga people during the Homowo festival.

At the Arms Around The Child Artist Residency, our goals are to make a difference to the lives of children who have lived through adversity and create and spotlight cross-cultural exchange.
🧡By hosting artists at our foundation in Ghana, we teach the children art and, therefore, artistic exploration and the power of art on one's wellbeing.
🧡The artists take their experience as inspiration to create pieces based on their time.
🧡These pieces may go into exhibitions or for sale - the proceeds for which go towards our projects.
🧡By hosting artists in Ghana, we encourage cross-cultural exploration and learning about African and African Diaspora art.

In case you missed it last month - our exhibition The Language and Image of Us was featured in Ghana Web! 📰
In particular, Oscar Korbla was spotlighted in the article, while Arms Around The Child; UNESCO; LaFa Foundation; Zahra and Jason all got a mention. 🔦

We particularly enjoyed the section educating about Adinkra symbolism in Korbla's pieces.

🗨"Awuku's practice, which spans fine art photography, body painting, and symbolic visual design, investigates the relationship between contemporary African identity and ancestral knowledge. His work is known for incorporating Adinkra symbolism and intricate body patterns he calls Anansinisim, inspired by the complexity and storytelling traditions of spider webs. Through these elements, Awukucreates images that function as both cultural archives and contemporary artistic expressions.

In The Language & Image of Us, Awuku's work contributes to a broader dialogue about how African identity is communicated through material, gesture, and form. The exhibition frames image-making as a language capable of carrying collective memory, resistance, and renewal across generations."

Working from a custom-built studio within the Christian Atsu Education Centre, artists on the AATC Art Residency are part of a programme that continues the legacy of the late Christian Atsu.

His philanthropic efforts and vision remain at the heart of the residency. This initiative not only supports children in Senya Beraku and across Ghana but also serves as a reminder of the positive impact we can make, inspiring compassion and meaningful change.🧡
