“Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever fully feel like myself.”

A lot of LGBTQ+ people struggle with identity at some point in their lives.

You might be questioning who you are.
Trying to understand your s*xuality or gender.
Feeling disconnected from yourself.
Or simply exhausted from trying to fit into spaces that were never built for you.

At www.lgbtqHELP.org.uk, you can find information, advice, support, counselling, peer-support groups and more — all designed to help LGBTQ+ people feel less alone and more connected.

Sometimes support starts with one conversation.

The guidance around trans people and single-s*x spaces is going to leave a lot of people feeling anxious, upset, angry and uncertain about what comes next. Right now, it’s important that trans people and our wider LGBTQ+ community do not retreat into isolation or feel like you have to carry this on your own.

Community matters now more than ever.
• Look after each other.
• Check in on your friends.
• Support people who are struggling.
• Build each other up.
• Make sure nobody is left alone with their fear, anger or anxiety tonight.

Protect yourself and protect one another.

LGBT HERO runs Trans+ HangOuts — peer-support spaces where trans+ people can meet others, talk openly and support one another in a safe and understanding environment.

LGBT HERO Announces New Chair, Michael Harvey as previous chair, Alan Palmer steps down.

LGBT HERO has appointed Michael Harvey as the organisation’s new Chair following the board meeting held on 13 May 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the national LGBTQ+ health, equality and rights charity.

Michael steps into the role at a significant moment for LGBT HERO as the organisation continues to expand its work across peer-support, mental health, s*xual health, campaigning, training and community connection for LGBTQ+ people across the UK.

Alongside Michael’s appointment, LGBT HERO is also pleased to welcome three new trustees to the board: Matthew Pomeroy, Slawek Kosecki and Taofique Folarin.

If you're intending on voting in the local elections it's important that you bring approved photo ID with you to the voting station.

Not all forms of photo ID can be used to vote in person. Only photo ID from a pre-approved list is accepted at polling stations. Photo Voter ID you can use includes:

• A United Kingdom passport
• A passport issued by an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
• A national identity card issued by an EEA state
• A UK driving licence
• A driving licence issued by any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state
• A biometric immigration document
• An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card)
• A Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card)

Any of the following concessionary travel passes funded by the UK Government: - Older Person’s Bus Pass, Disabled Person’s Bus Pass, Oyster 60+ Card, Freedom Pass, A Blue Badge

You can find the full list on the Electoral Commission website.

For trans and gender nonconforming people, photo Voter ID can make it harder to vote

What the law says: The Elections Act (2022) is a recent set of laws that requires voters to show photo ID when voting in elections. It’s important to plan ahead to make sure that your vote isn’t lost

You won't be allowed to cast your vote if:

• You aren’t able to show an accepted photo ID when voting in person
• The photo on your ID is not recognisable as you, and the officer at the polling station is unable to confirm your identity.
• If your name or appearance are different to the photo ID you’re using, this could mean that you will not be issued a ballot paper.

Photo ID checks at the polling station will be looking to confirm that the name on your photo ID is the same as your name on the electoral register. Staff will not be checking the gender marker, address or nationality on your ID.

The name on your photo ID should be the same name that you used to register to vote. You do not need to show a photo ID that includes a gender marker.
