Earlier this month, we launched our Responsible AI Framework at an event hosted by Verizon Business in London.

The event brought together business leaders and technology experts to explore how organisations can harness the benefits of AI responsibly - using it ethically, transparently and in ways that create positive outcomes for people and society.

The framework provides practical guidance to help businesses embed responsible principles across their AI journey - from governance and risk management to inclusive, sustainable innovation.

Key takeaways from the discussion included:

💡Responsible AI is a leadership and strategic business issue, not just a technical one.

💡The framework offers practical, flexible guidance and core actions all businesses can take on AI ethics, governance and strategy.

💡Focusing on inclusive, sustainable growth and building trust through ethical and transparent AI helps unlock benefits while managing risk.

Explore our new framework and discover how your organisation can put responsible AI principles into practice. https://www.bitc.org.uk/responsible-ai/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_content=bitc_rb_responsibleai_20260330

Yesterday, the Office for Equality and Opportunity released its response to the recent consultation on mandatory ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting and announced the Government’s commitment to introducing these requirements for all large businesses.

The consultation showed widespread support for this move, reflecting strong backing for greater transparency on pay gaps among large employers.
The Government remains committed to delivering on its manifesto and Plan to Make Work Pay pledges around pay equality.

BITC and our Race Leadership Team have campaigned for mandatory ethnicity pay gap reporting for almost a decade, and we are delighted to see this important step towards closing both the ethnicity and disability pay gaps once and for all.

This development benefits not only employers and employees, but also the wider UK economy.

Recent analysis by Professor Ian Thomson, in collaboration with BITC, found that embedding ethnicity pay transparency into business practice could boost the economy by £17 billion.

Young people represent a huge pool of untapped talent – and it’s time for businesses to unlock their potential.

💡 That’s why we welcome today’s Government announcement of a major £1 billion investment to tackle youth unemployment - expanding opportunities through the Youth Guarantee and new apprenticeship initiatives.

These plans aim to create 200,000 jobs and apprenticeship opportunities for young people aged 16–24, helping those currently not in education, employment or training take a vital first step into work and supporting inclusive economic growth.

At Business in the Community, we believe opportunity only becomes real when employers open their doors.

Through our Opening Doors campaign, we’re doing just that – helping businesses remove barriers and create inclusive pathways into good work.

An afternoon at the House of Lords brought together Sheffield business, civic, community, and public sector leaders to launch the Sheffield Place Prospectus – a shared strategic vision for the city’s future.

Through our Pride of Place programme, we help unite people from all walks of life around a vision for a better future in places that have long faced hardship - nurturing collaboration, sustained investment and self-belief so that communities can thrive.

Hosted by Baroness Jo Valentine and the Sheffield Pride of Place Board, and introduced by Tim Roberts, Chief Executive of Henry Boot and Chair of Sheffield Pride of Place, the reception highlighted Sheffield’s diverse talent pool, rich industrial heritage, and world-class advanced manufacturing and innovation strengths.

It also underlined the city’s identity as the UK’s greenest city, and the role of strong partnerships in tackling inequality and unlocking opportunity across Sheffield to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
