Thursday 1st is the England day of action against Palantir, with protests at 20+ locations as part of a global week of action against the company. We're finishing the day at Palantir's door, together.

Palantir holds a £330m contract to run NHS England's data platform. The government decides in the coming weeks whether to end it. This is our moment to show them how many of us want Palantir out.

🚨The government has finally responded to our ten demands for change for the NHS.

Back in April, Just Treatment Patient Leaders met with then Health Secretary Wes Streeting and shared how the ongoing NHS crisis has impacted their lives. We delivered ten demands for change and secured a commitment to a written reply within a month.

Three Health Secretaries later, that reply has arrived from the Department of Health and Social Care. Put simply, it's not good enough.

The new Health Secretary, Yvette Cooper, has also refused our request to meet with patients whose lives have been devastated by this crisis. Her department has failed to show it's willing to prioritise investing in the NHS over boosting corporate profits.

At the upcoming Autumn Budget, the government has a chance to change course: commit to taxing corporations and wealth to fund our crumbling public services.

🚨The Financial Times reported that patient data from GP surgeries is quietly being added to US-spy tech Palantir's NHS platform, calling it a "significant expansion" of the software.

Right now it's happening through NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board, which says data sharing agreements are in place with "the small number of practices participating in the pilot". We don't know whether other areas are doing the same.

This is exactly why we built our GP letter toolkit. GP surgeries can hand patient data to Palantir's software, or refuse to. The more surgeries that hear from their patients, the harder it gets to say yes.

🚨In an unusual move, the chairs of six parliamentary select committees, have written to the National Audit Office asking for an urgent inquiry into what the US-UK pharma deal will cost the NHS.

They have done it because the government has refused to publish what the deal will actually cost the NHS.

The Nuffield Trust has had to take the government to the Information Tribunal just to see the impact assessment. Sally Gainsbury, who brought that appeal, says the deal will "divert resources away from much more cost-effective forms of care and towards much more expensive and often less certain treatments."

When six committee chairs from across parliament say they are worried about the bill, patients should be worried too. Every extra pound spent meeting big pharma's price demands is a pound not spent on GP appointments, mental health services or cutting waiting lists.

It's time for for Andy Burnham to demonstrate he puts the interests of the NHS ahead of big pharma's demands!

🚨Patients across half of England are being made to wait for surgery they could have sooner.

An investigation by The BMJ found that 17 of England's 36 integrated care boards have set minimum waiting times of 12 to 16 weeks for operations including hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery. Two boards, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and West Yorkshire, have a 16-week minimum for every routine procedure.

These waits are a rationing tool, used to slow down treatment and control costs. For patients that means more weeks living with pain and reduced mobility. The Royal College of Surgeons warns people's conditions can get worse while they wait, and its president Tim Lane said treatment should depend on clinical need, "not by where they live."

The BMJ also spoke to Sally Gainsbury at the Nuffield Trust, who said ICB budgets are skewed towards private providers that can churn through hips, knees and cataracts quickly. That leaves less money for patients with complex needs, who private companies typically don't treat. This is what happens when the NHS pays private firms to take the straightforward work.

The 18-week waiting target hasn't been met since February 2016. In June, only 65.8% of patients were treated within 18 weeks against a target of 92%. And last October, health minister Karin Smyth said it was acceptable for NHS organisations to impose minimum waits to save money.

Minimum waits should be scrapped, and the money should go into NHS capacity rather than private providers. Share if you agree!

🔥BACK THE BREAK CLAUSE IN PALANTIR’S NHS CONTRACT🔥

In 2023, the UK government handed a massive contract to handle huge amounts of sensitive NHS data to an American software company known for its role in drone strikes and deportations - Palantir. In the CEO’s own words, “Palantir is here to scare our enemies and, on occasion, kill them.”

In February 2027, Palantir's contract with NHS England comes to an end. The government has a choice whether to extend it, or break the contract. This decision will be made imminently. Now is the time to call on MPs, local hospitals and councils to “Back the Break Clause” and demand that the government does not renew Palantir's NHS contract.

🚨The government signed a deal with Trump that doubles NHS spending on new medicines…and now they’re refusing to publish their own assessment of what it will cost our health service.

If this deal is good for patients, show us the numbers.

Ministers have admitted to £1 billion in costs over this spending review period alone. And independent research shows the deal could move £44.7 BILLION out of the NHS and into the pockets of the pharmaceutical industry over the next decade.

The drug companies have “welcomed” the deal. Of course they have. They lobbied for it. Meanwhile the government has said publishing the true cost would “prejudice” trade talks.

This deal was forced through with no transparency, little debate, and no vote in Parliament. It hands Big Pharma and the US government influence over NICE - the independent body that decides which drugs the NHS can afford.
