🌿🫚Herb of the Month - Ginger🫚🌿

From an Ayurvedic perspective, ginger (Zingerber Officinale) is a superfood, used to improve digestion, the respiratory system and the joints. It is believed to destroy toxins (ama), rekindle the digestive fire (agni), improve the secretion of the digestive enzymes, prevent nausea and stop hiccups.
-
It also improves peripheral circulation and warms the body, reducing the feelings of cold and pain. When used in high dosage, it can be helpful in congestive-type cardiac disorders.
-
Ginger clears phlegm in the lungs, alleviating coughs, colds and breathing difficulties. Despite its warming quality, it also reduces inflammation by inhibiting the activity of prostaglandins making it commonly used in many traditional forumlations to treat arthritis.
-
For that same reason, hot, fresh ginger tea is also a great medicine for menstrual cramps. Ginger has a rejuvenating effect and is considered Sattvic, helping to promote a calm, peaceful mind. Ginger is used in a wide variety of Ayurvedic formulations and home remedies.
-
In order to improve digestion, eating a thin slice of fresh ginger with a touch of rock salt is often prescribed before lunch and dinner.
-
☕️🫚Ginger tea is easy to make by adding freshly cut ginger to hot water, allowing it to diffuse. Sipping warm ginger tea throughout the day has proven to have many health benefits.
-
However, ginger is contra-indicated if one suffers with hyper-acidity, during any form of haemorrhage, if one has vertigo and in chronic skin diseases. If taken in excess, Ginger will increases Pitta dosha but reduces Vata and Kapha 🫚☕️🌿
