NEW: Launching the first in our JUST Stories series.

This is the powerful story of a small coal town co-creating a net-zero transition that is delivering jobs, stability and investment into new green industries.

🔥 One evening in 1883, George Marsh was tending his sheep in the lush, undulating hills near the Collie River in Western Australia. As dusk fell, Marsh collected rocks from the river and placed them around his campfire. To his amazement, the rocks set alight.

🧑‍🏭 And so began 130 years of coal industry in Collie, powering the state of Western Australia and providing generations of local families with secure livelihoods.

❓ So what happened in 2022, when the Western Australian Government announced plans to close all of Collie's coal plants by 2029? What did the future hold for a town where a quarter of the population relies on coal for work?

📖 Read, 📺 watch or 🔉 listen to Collie’s fascinating story on https://www.just-stories.org/stories/collie-just-transition-a-blueprint-for-the-worlds-eight-million-coal-workers

Did you know there are 2,400 coal-fired power stations worldwide?

That’s 8 million people around the world who rely on coal for their livelihoods!

But to keep global warming within 1.5C, we must eliminate coal in the next 25 years.

So what does the future look like for coal towns?

🎦 Watch this sneak preview of the first story in our JUST Stories series, featuring a small coal town in Western Australia where businesses and workers are co-creating their just transition to net zero.

Coming soon - ‘Collie: a blueprint for the world’s eight million coal workers?
