Single Homeless Project

Single Homeless Project Working to prevent homelessness and help Londoners to transform their lives. Single Homeless Project is a London-wide charity.

Our vision is of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. We help single Londoners by preventing homelessness, providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change. From supporting people in crisis to helping people take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a differen

ce to 10,000 lives every year across all 32 boroughs. Our Values

Clients hold the key - as an organisation founded by homeless people, we believe in the fundamental right of every individual to take control of their lives. Tailoring support to their needs and aspirations, we work with people to build their capacity for self-determination, so that they can shape their own futures. Going the extra mile - we go the extra mile for the people we work with, many of whom have multiple and complex needs for which there are no quick and easy fixes. We keep working with people no matter how challenging it may be, and we donโ€™t give up on them. People, not problems - we see our clients as people, not problems. As well as offering practical support, we believe itโ€™s essential to give people the opportunity to discover a sense of purpose, to grow in confidence, express themselves and build meaningful relationships. A voice for change - we are committed to tackling the underlying causes of homelessness and social exclusion, and we will use what we learn to make the case for prevention and systemic change. We are also passionate about promoting the voices of homeless and vulnerable people, whose stories often go unheard. Supporting staff - we maintain a culture in which staff are respected, supported, and listened to. We value the contribution of all staff and we are a diverse organisation that pulls together, in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation. We encourage creativity and new ideas, prizing innovation as a means of achieving our mission. Honest and open - we are honest and open in our dealings with clients, staff, partners, supporters and other stakeholders. We will do what we say we will do, and we will strive to communicate proactively and transparently.

Natalie spent years surviving homelessness and addiction, moving between hostels, temporary accommodation and the streets.

Today, she calls her flat her "little palace". She's reconnecting with family, planning for the future, and says, "I wake up happy now."

Recovery wasn't instant. It started with something simple: someone taking the time to listen.

Read Natalie's story on our website.

Millions will remember where they were when they watched the eclipse. ๐ŸŒ’

For 15 people, it will be remembered for a very different reason. It will be the moment they become homeless.

Our research found that every 7.5 minutes, one Londoner is pushed into homelessness. Every day, rising rents, evictions and a broken housing system push more people into crisis.

But together, we can change that! Support our work by signing up to our monthly newsletter, and together we can help ensure homelessness doesn't cast a shadow over someone's future. ๐Ÿ’œ

Milo left home at 16 after years of abuse and neglect. With nowhere safe to go, they ended up sleeping rough for over a year.

It took a seizure on the street for someone to notice Milo needed help. After being taken to hospital, they were referred to one of our young people's services.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Walking through the doors to the hostel... I remember sobbing and crying. It was very overwhelming and scary."

With a safe place to stay and the right support, Milo slowly began to rebuild their life.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "I started to make friends at the hostel and began opening up about what I'd gone through."

Today, Milo is preparing to move into a place of their own. ๐Ÿ’œ

Every young person deserves the chance to feel safe, heal and build a future they can call their own.

We're incredibly proud to see Arwa Omaren, one of the people we've supported, perform her one-woman show, ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™˜๐™ช๐™—๐™–: ๐™’๐™๐™ฎ ๐˜ผ๐™ข ๐™„ ๐™„๐™ฃ ๐™”๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™ง๐™ฎ?, at this year's Edinburgh Fringe. ๐ŸŽญ

Blending hope, humour and defiance, the show follows Arwa's extraordinary journey from life as a Palestinian refugee in Syria, through near-fatal abandonment, to homelessness on the streets of London.

If you're at the Fringe this August, go see it! ๐Ÿ’™

With a splash of paint and a few volunteers, Liss helps turn our hostels into spaces that finally feel like home. ๐Ÿก

๐Ÿ’ฌ "So many of our spaces can feel unwelcoming. Being able to make them feel warmer... that's my favourite part."

Working with our corporate partners, Liss organises volunteer days that transform communal spaces across our services through decorating, gardening, DIY projects and more.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Seeing it all come together, with clients involved and staff so appreciative... that's what makes it all worthwhile."

Thank you for your hard work, Liss! ๐Ÿ’›

We welcome Andy Burnham's ambition to end rough sleeping. But achieving it means recognising the true scale of the challenge and ensuring support meets people's different needs.

As our Director of System Change, Lucy Campbell, told The Guardian:

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "If Andy Burnham is serious about ending rough sleeping, he needs to be the first political leader who's not going to shy away from saying, actually, the figures are much higher than we think they are.

And we cannot expect generic homelessness initiatives to work the same for men as they do for women and the LGBTQ community."

Real progress starts with recognising that rough sleeping doesn't look the same for everyone. By understanding people's different experiences, we can design services that give everyone the support they need to leave homelessness behind for good.

Home is where everything starts. ๐Ÿ

Last year, we helped 4,750 people stay in their own home, preventing homelessness before it happened.

Because the best outcome isn't helping someone after they've lost their home. It's making sure they never lose it in the first place. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ฌ "You have to do things yourself. You have to fight."

For most of her life, Jurga believed asking for help wasn't an option. That changed when she met Michelle, her support worker.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "When I realised this wasn't about Michelle doing everything for me, but helping me do it myself, everything changed."

With Michelle's support and Jurga's determination, she rebuilt her confidence, found a home and made the decision to stop drinking.

Today, she's giving back as one of our peer mentors, helping others take their own first steps towards independence. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ’ฌ "You made me feel needed. You made me feel useful. You made me feel human again."

We're so proud of you, Jurga. โœจ
