Membership of the society is drawn from a wide range of disciplines including medical and paramedical professions, physicists, engineers, nurses, midwives, technicians, general practitioners, vets and others with an interest in medical ultrasound both in the United Kingdom and overseas. The success of the Society stems to a great extent from its multi-disciplinary nature, its regular special topic meetings, its Annual Scientific meeting and its quarterly 'Journal'.

Our collaborative manifesto with AXREM, The British Institute of Radiology , Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and Society and College of Radiographers (SoR | CoR) successfully launched today at UKIO 2026.

👏Thank to every organisation that contributed to this landmark manifesto.

We are proud to be part of a shared vision for the future of Ultrasound, focused on providing practical steps for overcoming service challenges.

We are delighted to have collaborated with four leading professional bodies and organisations to set out a shared vision for the future of ultrasound through a collaborative manifesto ready to launch at UKIO on Monday 8th June.

BMUS, alongside AXREM, the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), and the Society of Radiographers (SoR), formed a collaborative manifesto that sets out:

📌Identifies barriers to safe and sustainable ultrasound delivery,
📌defines coordinated actions needed to ensure high quality, equitable ultrasound services—now and for the future.
