London’s weather has once again been breaking records this month, and we’re under no illusion that these extreme conditions won’t return in the coming weeks. So, let’s prepare!

Here are some tips to help our trees cope during spells of extreme weather, so they can continue to grow and provide the much-needed shade and cooling we’ve appreciated over the last few days!

On Saturday we had a lovely morning at our Citizen Science Workshop in New Cross last weekend, hosted as part of the ☀️🌳

A wonderful group of us gathered at Art Hub Studio for tea, coffee and a toolbag activity, before heading out to look at the street trees on our doorstep; learning how to read the signs of tree health and walking through the process of the 2026 Tree Health Check together. It was great to meet so many people who care about the trees in their neighbourhood.

Thanks to everyone who came along and gave up their Saturday morning. We'll be sharing more about the Tree Health Check and how to get involved in the coming months! 🙌💚🌱

A big thank you to the teams at and

They’re helping care for the young trees outside the café and pub this year, making sure they get the water they need to thrive. It's always fantastic to have the support of local businesses and we hope the trees bring beauty, and a warm welcome in return for years to come 🌿

Our crowdfunder is live and currently we’re almost halfway to our £20,000 target! Thank you to all who have shared and contributed so far, and to our generous matchfunders
Please spread the word and donate to you can - all donations will be doubled until Wed 29th April, meaning twice the impact. Last year thanks to the Big Give campaign, we were able to bring more trees to streets with low tree canopy cover and high footfall in Lewisham, and this year we plan to do more of the same. We’ll be working with local residents, community groups and schools to collaboratively choose suitable sites and species, and provide the support for people to become long-term volunteer tree guardians. A packed volunteer session yesterday - here's a little snapshot of what we got up to... 📸

We spent the day looking after trees in their third year of planting. The Tree Care team mulched, weeded, pruned, fixed posts and gave everything a good water.

A special mention to the team's resourcefulness; a stray shopping trolley was conscripted into service as a load carrier 🛒, and a wine cork was brilliantly engineered into a watering can stopper. Never a dull moment!
