Following a major piece of work with ATC, led by former CIOL Council member Carina Balbo and with some very helpful input from a number of other CIOL Council members, we have developed some shared guidance with ITI and ATC on the landscape and varied requirements translators may encounter for Certified Translations.

This has gone live today on CIOL's Certified Translation page www.ciol.org.uk/certified-translations and is simultaneously being put live by ATC and ITI.

We are delighted that Professor Michael Kelly OBE is the 2024 recipient of the David Crystal Award, announced at the CIOL Awards on 15 March!
The award, in the name of CIOL Vice-President Professor David Crystal OBE, is presented annually to “a person for whom language has been a constant within their work and life; and someone who has used that knowledge to help or inspire others or to open up the world of languages to a wider audience.”

After Translators Day on Friday, Interpreters Day yesterday, 16 March 2024, was an equally very successful event with over 100 attendees and a series of fascinating talks by Dr Barbara Schouten, Dr Diana Singureanu, Dr Sabine Braun from the University of Surrey Centre for Translation Studies, Sue Leschen from Avocate, Phil Muriel and Mike Orlov from the NRPSI and Julia Poger. It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet colleagues and friends from the interpreting profession. Etc Venue in St Paul's, London, provided us with a comfortable setting and delicious food and drinks. Here are a few pictures taken at this memorable event, gathering both interpreters and translators from all over the world!

What an amazing Translators Day on 15th March at St Paul's Etc venue in London! With remarkable, inspiring speakers such as Chris Durban, Claudia Wiesinger, Tracey Byrne, Dr Joseph Lambert, Dr Callum Walker, and a panel made up of Council Members Dr Mariam Aboelezz, Emma Gledhill and Vasilili Prestidge as well as the CIOL Awards ceremony...this was a truly vibrant, electrifying event that gave all attendees exceptional opportunities of both CPD and networking with like minded, talented linguists from all over the world and different fields from the translation profession! Great food and drinks were also enjoyed by all in a very comfortable setting. A truly memorable day! Massive thanks to CIOL for organising yet again such a breathtaking event! :-)
