New Family Social New Family Social is the only UK charity led by and for LGBTQ+ adopters, foster carers & special guardians. We've come a long way.

New Family Social is a self-help membership organisation, formed in 2007. It was established from the need for LGBTQ+ adopters and foster carers to support each other. We also support our children by developing their confidence in knowing other families like theirs. From January 2006 unmarried couples, including same-sex couples, could adopt jointly in England and Wales. Soon after this change, a

group of adopters and foster carers identified several areas of need, leading to the creation of New Family Social. New Family Social is now a registered charity, working closely with many adoption and foster care agencies across the UK. Our income comes mostly from over 100 adoption and fostering agencies. These provide support for their families, by subscribing to New Family Social.

Navigating the secondary school years is the topic of our next 'ask-the-expert' online event, taking place 23 June.

Whether your child's already in the thick of it, or you're still in the primary/pre-school phase, most LGBTQ+ adopters, foster carers and special guardians will have to navigate the secondary school years at some point.

This webinar will provide some tips on how best to work with school to achieve positive outcomes for care-experienced children. We'll also go through some more recent developments affecting schools to inform parents and carers when making decisions around schooling for their child. And there'll be an examination of how SEND - special educational needs & disabilities - and Pupil Premium factor in.
