When James was first diagnosed with mouth cancer, there wasn't a Maggie's nearby for support. But when he was diagnosed a second time, Maggie's was there.

"I was a bit scared to come through the doors the first time, but I was so glad I did.

"After everything I have been through – three lots of operations, three lots of speech and language therapy – I’ve had rehabilitation three times, but I am slowly learning to live with cancer.

ā€œThe Maggie’s Men’s Group is where I can open-up and bare my soul. Sometimes I might have a tough week but I know I will always leave Maggie’s feeling better.

ā€œSome men might think men’s groups are not for them. we don’t always talk about cancer. we have a laugh and talk about football and holidays too.

šŸ“¢Our šŸ“¢this week are the incredible lawyers and clerks who took part in our ā€˜Lock up the Lawyers’ event on Tuesday.

They were sentenced for fictitious crimes by Judge Kingston (too many sparkles, loving Monday mornings and office pranks to name a few!) and given the challenge of raising as much as they could for Maggie’s.

We are so delighted to announce over Ā£53,000 was raised for our 4 London centres. This amount will keep a centre open for over 3 weeks. šŸ‘

Thank you so much to all the participants and to Suzanne Kingston and Nick Clark for organising such a brilliant event 🧔

Something BIG is brewing at Maggie’s ā˜•šŸ§

Host a Bake and Brew in June to help raise money for people living with cancer and those who love them.

Bake and Brew is all about bringing people together over delicious cakes and cuppas, all while supporting Maggie’s. There’s no set recipe: host anytime, anywhere, and make it your own.

Every cuppa served and cake baked will help provide more practical and emotional support for the people who need us most.

When you sign up, you’ll receive a free fundraising pack filled with invitations, cake flags, bunting, posters and everything you need to make your event a success.

šŸ‘‰ Sign up to host your own Bake and Brew:

With less than one month to go, we’re really looking forward to Maggie’s Summer Walk - and we’d love you (and your team, friends or family) to be part of it.

On Sunday 7 June, we’ll be walking 5k or 10k around the beautiful Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. This challenge is great for colleagues, community groups, families, and anyone who wants to do a walk with scenic views (dogs are welcome too).

Every step will support people living with cancer, and the people who love them, and will allow Maggie’s to continue delivering free expert support.

You can reach Denbies by train (Dorking station is a 15-minutes’ walk away from the vineyard, or we will have dedicated parking space)

If you can, please sign up and share with your network. There are individual and family ticket options. More info here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/maggies-summer-walk-2026-tickets-1982276075102?aff=oddtdtcreator

ā€œComing to Maggie’s has changed my life and my family’s lives. It really has and I know that because they tell me.ā€

James came to us for support when he was diagnosed with mouth cancer for the second time, 15 years after his first diagnosis. Meeting other men at the men’s support group meant that our centres fast became a place that helped James ā€˜piece himself together’, allowing him to be the husband, the dad and the grandad that he always wanted to be.

ā€œThe Maggie’s men’s group is where I can open-up and bare my soul. Sometimes I might have a tough week because what I’ve been through can play on my mind, but I know I will always leave Maggie’s feeling better.ā€
