It's genuinely sad to hear that Cotswold House in Torquay is due to close. Our thoughts are with the staff and their families, who now face a period of uncertainty.

That said, it's important to separate the headlines from the reality. The building is leased rather than owned by the DWP, and much of the work carried out there can be transferred to other locations. So while around 130 posts are affected, that doesn't automatically mean 130 people will lose their jobs.

The real concern is that Torquay has no obvious nearby DWP office for staff to move to, so for many employees the future is far from clear. We sincerely hope every effort is made to redeploy staff wherever possible and keep compulsory redundancies to an absolute minimum.

As usual, it's not quite that simple.

Being an MP isn't a 9-to-5 job where you simply clock in to Parliament. Many MPs spend their time on constituency surgeries, helping residents with complex cases, sitting on select committees, scrutinising legislation, meeting ministers, attending public events, and dealing with countless emails and phone calls.

Turning up in the Commons chamber is only one part of the role. Attendance figures alone don't tell the whole story.

If an MP is genuinely neglecting their duties, they should absolutely be held accountable. But accountability should be based on their overall performance and service to constituents—not on a simplistic attendance target.

Interesting tribute.

We were present at the Torbay Council meeting where Anne Holbrook publicly stated that Ellie Waugh had been attacked while walking her dogs in Brixham and had acid thrown over her.

To the best of our knowledge, no such attack ever took place.

We were later told by a source we trust that Ellie was seen out socialising in Torquay just four days later. If that's accurate, it raises obvious questions about the original claim.

People can make up their own minds, but serious allegations should always be backed by evidence.

Sanctuary Housing.

Funny how every post seems designed to create outrage rather than provide balance.

Sanctuary have published complaint figures, openly acknowledge damp and mould as a major issue, and have been told where they need to improve.

That's called transparency. Constantly implying there's a scandal behind every complaint isn't.

And as for PWUK taking a week off... I don't think many people will miss the daily outrage.

There's a lot of talk about rough sleeping in Brixham, so let's stick to the facts rather than the headlines.

Yes, homelessness exists here, and every person without a safe place to sleep is one too many. But Brixham is not the rough sleeping hotspot that some would have people believe. The official counts are for the whole of Torbay, and there are no published figures showing Brixham has large numbers of people sleeping on its streets.

What Brixham does have is something worth celebrating: a community that refuses to look the other way.

A huge thank you to Brixham Does Care, the Salvation Army, Torbay Council's outreach teams, and the many local volunteers who quietly provide food, support, advice and hope to those who need it most. They don't chase headlines—they simply get on with helping people.

Let's continue to support those doing the hard work, deal with facts rather than exaggeration, and be proud that Brixham is a town where compassion is matched by action.
