Celebrating Our Heritage, Culture, Identity and Ancestral Legacy
Isese Day is a significant celebration of Yoruba cultural heritage. It provides an opportunity for Yoruba people around the world to reconnect with their history, traditions, language, values, arts and ancestral heritage.
The word Isese is commonly understood in the Yoruba cultural context as referring to our origin, tradition, heritage and the customs handed down through generations. For many Yoruba people, Isese Day is therefore an opportunity to recognise and appreciate the richness of Yoruba civilisation and the values that have shaped our communities for generations.

As Yoruba people living in the diaspora, we have a special responsibility to ensure that our children and grandchildren understand where they come from. Teaching them our language, history, names, traditional greetings, music, food, values and stories helps them develop a strong connection to their heritage.
Isese Day should therefore not be viewed simply as a day of celebration. It can also be a day of learning, reflection and cultural education.
