We may not have been as ambitious as Kevin Costner’s character, Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella in the film Field of Dreams 🎬, but for us this has been a monumental undertaking by residents and volunteers to get this project from inception to reality 🚲✨.

And here we are finally — after 11 months of designing, planning and applying for funding — we have just had the materials delivered for Branches’ new bike shed, so we can start the build! 🛠️🎉 The fantastic team Hill Builders Merchants have bent over backwards to source and deliver the materials to us, not least their excellent delivery driver Kingsley, who was sent around the houses by his sat nav before he was finally able to find us! 🚚👏

We are very excited at Branches – in June last year, a retired architect approached Branches to volunteer to start a project to collaborate with residents to come up with an idea of something to design and build for our outside space at Branches😊 This retired architect spent 80 hours building 3 scale models of Branches building and outdoor space, which was used to imagine how the proposals would look in situ.

After some deliberation, a decision was reached that we could really do with a bike🚲️ shed to keep residents’ bikes secure, and, after 11 months of design discussion, plan drawing and model building equating to over 200 hours of work, and then presenting to our CEO and Facilities Manager, and securing funding, we are now ready to start the build🤗 !!

Volunteer Week has arrived in the UK – it runs from 2nd to 8th June, so we are thanking our wonderful volunteers by putting up our Thank You banner on our building 🛠️. It only took three Branches’ staff to manage this task - one to hold the banner, one to fix it to the wall and one to supervise with some excellent pointing 🗣️ – thank you, Warner!

Volunteers 🙋‍♀️ play such an important role in so many organisations across the UK, and at Branches we can see the positive impact they have on the lives of Branches residents – and they are an enormous help to staff in delivering our mission.

This June, we're reaching out to our amazing community for our Summer Clothes Donation Drive! We need summer clothing items that are in good condition—whether they’re gently used, clean, or brand new, every contribution counts!

Your generous donations will help residents enjoy the warmth of the season with confidence and comfort. Please refer to the poster for all the details on acceptable items and drop-off at our main reception area between 9-5 pm, preferably Monday to Friday.
