Five children were reportedly killed yesterday after a missile struck an apartment block in northern Ukraine, destroying 30 flats as families slept.

Three of the children were one-year-olds.

These children had names. Their lives mattered. They were, and still are, someone's everything: their entire universe.

Every one of these children's families will grieve for them for the rest of their lives.

All parties to this conflict must uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law.

In other words: Stop. Killing. Children.

Five-year-old Ellaria and her little sister, two-year-old Elmera, completed The Big Mile this September together with their parents, Hamid and Naz, to raise money for Save the Children.

They may be small, but their efforts were mighty, the two sisters raising £860 together, completely beating their original target. A huge well done to both of them!

It means that together, their overall fundraising total is nearly £2,000 🌟

Mum, Naz, said: "What started as a little toddle has become a special family tradition.

"There was lots of running, giggling and even some hand-holding along the way, and they were very proud to collect their medals at the finish.

"The girls were so proud to wear their Save the Children tops and it made the day even more special knowing their little mile was helping children around the world."

Save the Children UK welcomes today’s announcement from the Foreign Secretary, which represents a decisive shift in the UK Government’s approach to the occupied Palestinian territory. We support the Foreign Secretary’s commitment to ensure the UK are not “bystanders to further suffering”.

Banning trade with illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank is an important step and shows that the new UK Government is prepared to put its words into action and do things differently.

Settler violence and settlement expansion represent one of the biggest threats to Palestinian children living under Israel’s occupation. Children and families are living under constant fear of attacks by state-backed Israeli settlers, who have burned homes, attacked schools, and committed violent assaults and intimidation at gunpoint.

We look forward to working with the Government to ensure this is the beginning – not the end – of stronger action to protect Palestinian children and end Israel’s impunity for its ongoing atrocities across both the West Bank and Gaza, where Palestinian children continue to endure a level of violence, deprivation and displacement that no child should ever experience.

Yet more lives cut devastatingly short by Israeli forces and settler violence.

Their families and friends will grieve them for the rest of their lives.

The two boys were Khalil Abu Alia, 16, who was about to start 11th grade at the al-Mughayyir boys school, and 19-year-old Omar al-Nassan, who recently graduated from the same school.

"A group of settlers entered the village under police and military es**rt to steal dozens of sheep from a Palestinian home," The Guardian reported that village residents and Israeli activists said.

Khalil was killed by a soldier and it's not clear whether Omar was killed by a soldier or a settler.

Violence in the West Bank is getting worse.

Children and families have told Save the Children that they are living under constant fear of attacks by state-backed Israeli settlers, who have burned homes, attacked schools, and committed violent assaults and intimidation at gunpoint.

Six months after the major Israeli military escalation in Lebanon, there is still no ceasefire.

Despite repeated announcements that there will be no more violence, the attacks on civilians and destruction of homes by Israeli forces have not stopped in Southern Lebanon. They have simply continued.

More than seven children have been killed or injured every single day in these attacks in the last six months. Many others remain displaced, unable to return home safely, and are cut off from essential services including education, healthcare and safe water.

While Save the Children is supporting children and families by providing water, relief items and psychological support, only a definitive, lasting, and comprehensive ceasefire can protect children's lives and futures.

Today marks the end of thousands of children going hungry at school, thanks to the extension of Free School Meals in England for children whose families receive Universal Credit.

Children will no longer struggle to concentrate because they haven’t had enough to eat, and their parents will no longer face the same stress and anxiety around making ends meet.

We congratulate the UK Government on this vital step for children, which will lift 100,000 children out of poverty and improve the lives and education of many more across England.

We look forward to continuing to work with the UK Government on this issue, and call on them to ensure take up and deliver the same support throughout school holidays by expanding Healthy Start vouchers to those now eligible.
