Friends of Arnold Circus

The Friends of Arnold Circus is a charitable community organisation dedicated to the regeneration and upkeep of the Arnold Circus.

The Friends of Arnold Circus is a charitable community organisation (Registered Charity No. 1114726) dedicated to the regeneration and upkeep of the Arnold Circus bandstand and surrounding Boundary Gardens, located in the centre of the historic Boundary Estate. Established by local residents in 2004, we have worked with the community to turn Arnold Circus from an unloved and run-down space into the much-loved and well-tended oasis it is today.

Volunteer Workdays:31st July '26.

Jean, Andy and Victoria litter picked.

Gulleys and steps were swept, sweepings off to the compost.

Charlie spread leafmould and got stung by wasps.

Chris cut drought-struggling things right down. Henrietta and Lucy cut crispy Japanese anemones down to the ground. Chopped and dropped, the dead stems remain as habitat. They'll soon grow back with rain.

And for everyone; cups of tea from , and oaty biscuits & rice pudding from Alexei Hampson, of course.

Jean litter picked.

Pam oiled & cleaned secateurs and snips.

Logs got moved.

Gulleys and steps were swept, sweepings to the compost.

Charlie & Henrietta emptied leafmould dumpy bags & juggled compost.

Chris cut drought-struggling things right down - they'll be the better without leaves to support until rain comes again.

Thanks to @ head gardener The Exchange for hosting Arnold Circus gardeners today.

The Exchange is community-led arts space based in a former library in Erith. The compact garden, designed by , wraps around the building and makes the most of the varying conditions; building shade, deciduous shade, full sun etc. There's lovely detailed planting throughout, all thoughtfully gardened by Selena and the volunteer team. Despite the heat and drought, and, apparently, the ravages of foxes, it's looking great with lots in flower and is just alive with pollinators.

Easy to get to; Elizabeth line to Abbey Wood then two stops overground, it's well worth a visit - has a cafe onsite too with a decent cup of tea.

Chris cut cherry laurel down to the ground. Victoria chopped it all up and off to the compost bins.

Andy and Chris sorted out a big fallen branch.

Lucy shredded a whole
load of branches and woody prunings.

Chris thinned the fig.

Compost got rehomed and barrowed from estate to estate, we filled empty planters on Calvert Ave too.

And for everyone; cups of tea from , and lemon slices too, of course. with extra teas after too, as it was so nice, we stayed late.

Gulleys and steps were swept, and the top level too, so many leaves coming down. All the sweepings off to the compost bins.

Euphorbias were deadheaded. Jasmine was cut back. Ivy got trimmed. A cherry got crown-lifted.

And for everyone; cups of tea from , and Anzac bscuits from , of course.
