Hussein Ataba from Kogi State, reportedly spoke out about people being silenced for criticizing bad governance and later went missing, with claims he may be in police custody, this has raised serious concern.

Also the case of Justice Chidiebere (Justice Clark), who criticized the poor welfare of troops reportedly disappeared just days after his video went viral. Meanwhile, reports further claim that over ₦600 million is being spent to rehabilitate bandits while many soldiers continue to struggle with basic welfare.

Another disturbing case is that of Mene, a dispatch rider who allegedly said he didn’t know a package he was delivering contained a firearm, yet he was reportedly shot by a police officer despite offering to cooperate.

These stories reflect a growing climate of fear around speaking out. It calls for Nigerians to demand accountability, justice, and protection of free speech.

A country where citizens struggle not only with hardship but also fear the very institutions meant to protect them is a country in urgent need of reform. When people feel unsafe to speak, trust in institutions weakens and that is why conversations like this must continue.

Nigeria deserves justice, accountability, and the protection of every citizen’s voice.

This is the case of Justice Chidiebere (Justice Crack) who suddenly disappeared. He called out the Nigerian government about the welfare of Nigerian soldiers. He questioned the quality of food allegedly being provided to troops, and he criticized the government’s priorities, stating that while soldiers are struggling with basic welfare, the government is spending ₦604 million to rehabilitate bandits.

Days after the video circulated online, he went missing. The allegation is that a senior military official is holding him in a barracks.

Where is freedom of speech? Where is accountability?

We call on the relevant authorities to urgently investigate, clarify his whereabouts, and ensure his safety.

This video raises a difficult but necessary question: do some officials in Benue State, Nigeria, truly care about the displaced or is it about profit?

As communities continue to suffer from repeated attacks, displacement, and insecurity, the Nigerian government will be judged not by talk, but by action. Nigerian citizens deserve protection, and accountable leaders who prioritise displacement above profit.

When lives are lost with constant silence, amidst allegations of corruption, we have to ask the hard questions about governance and the IDP displacement- whose interests are really being served? Is it the government or the IDP's.
