Lydd London Solidarity Group

Lydd London Solidarity Group East London Unite Community and Lydd (Palestine 48) Solidarity Group.

Lydd London Solidarity is a project initiated by East London Unite Community (ELUC) in solidarity with Palestinians in the city of Lydd (Lod). Lydd, a major city in Palestine, was occupied by the Israeli army following the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Most of the inhabitants were expelled, and the land, buildings and other resources confiscated by the Israeli state. Since then, th

e few Palestinians remaining in Lydd have been joined by others expelled from other parts of Palestine, or moving from a rural to an urban centre. With Palestinians now forming an estimated 30% of the city’s population, Lydd is officially designated by the Israeli state as a “mixed city”. However, this population – like all Palestinian communities in the Israeli state- suffers from systematic denial of resources and other structural discrimination, and from constant police and security forces brutality. Our aim is to work together on developing and maintaining deep and lasting links of friendship and solidarity with Lydd activists and to support each other’s struggle for justice and human rights. We also aspire to raise awareness of the situation of Palestinians in Lydd, and elsewhere in Israel to ensure that they do not become a forgotten part of the Palestinian people, and to encourage and build direct community-to-community and group-to-group links between people in East London and Lydd
