Every successful TNR project is a true team effort. Thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers, veterinary partners and local feeders, another group of community cats has now been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and safely returned to their territory, helping to improve their welfare and prevent the cycle of unwanted litters.

Thank you to Dawn Lewis and Tracy Deamer and everyone involved in today’s successful trapping session. Seventeen cats were safely trapped in just 1.5 hours, an incredible team effort that will make a real difference to cat welfare in our community

🐾 Responsible Pet Ownership Starts Before You Bring a Pet Home

Animal charities across the UK are seeing an increasing number of requests to fund routine veterinary procedures, such as neutering, after cats and kittens have already been purchased or adopted.
It is important to remember that choosing to acquire a pet is also choosing to accept the financial responsibilities that come with ownership. These include food, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite treatment, neutering, routine veterinary care and being prepared for unexpected illness or injury.
A charity should never form part of the financial plan for acquiring a pet.
Every neutering voucher, every veterinary bill and every emergency treatment provided by charities is funded through the generosity of people who donate because they want to help animals in genuine need.
Expecting charities to routinely fund the cost of neutering after purchasing or adopting a pet is neither fair nor sustainable.
Every pound spent subsidising routine ownership costs is a pound that cannot be used to rescue an injured stray, care for an abandoned kitten, treat a sick animal, or support an owner experiencing genuine financial hardship.

Animal welfare charities have limited resources and difficult decisions have to be made every day. Every decision to fund one case means another animal may receive less help or have to wait longer for assistance.

We are also increasingly concerned by situations where adopters are encouraged to seek charitable funding for routine veterinary costs after acquiring an animal. Responsible rehoming means ensuring that adopters understand and are prepared for the financial commitment involved in pet ownership. The cost of routine veterinary care should be considered BEFORE an animal changes ownership—not afterwards.

Before bringing a cat or kitten into your family, please ask yourself:
Can I afford neutering?
Can I afford vaccinations and routine veterinary care?
Could I cope with an unexpected veterinary emergency?
Can I provide lifelong care for this animal?
If the answer is no, there is absolutely no shame in waiting until you are in a position to provide the standard of care every pet deserves.

Responsible ownership protects not only your own cat but also ensures that charitable donations remain available for the abandoned, neglected, injured and vulnerable cats who have nobody else to help them.

❤️ Please think before you buy or adopt. Responsible ownership begins long before your new companion comes home.

🚨 EMERGENCY FOSTER HOMES URGENTLY NEEDED 🚨

We need your help today.
Our Branch has been asked by the RSPCA Inspectorate to assist with an emergency multi-cat household involving over 30 cats. To give these cats the chance they deserve, we urgently need temporary foster homes for mums with kittens and young kittens.
By opening your home, you'll be giving vulnerable cats a safe place to recover, grow and prepare for their forever homes.
You won't be out of pocket –, we provide everything you need, including:
🐾 Food and litter
🐾 Bedding and equipment
🐾 Veterinary care
🐾 Full training and ongoing support
All you need is a safe spare room and a little time, love and patience.
Every new foster home allows us to rescue another cat. Without fosterers, we simply cannot bring these cats into our care.

One year. Over 80 cats. One final milestone. ❤️🐾

Today marks the end of an incredible journey for one of the largest TNR projects managed by Cats Protection Hendon, Finchley & Mill Hill.
Over the past year, our dedicated team has trapped, neutered and returned more than 80 cats from this colony in North London HA8. It has been a long and challenging journey, but our commitment has never changed: no cat is ever left behind.
The video below shows Ariel, the very last cat from the colony, returning home after being spayed and ear-tipped. Watching her walk back to the place she knows so well is a fitting end to a project that has taken patience, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to animal welfare.

A very special thank you goes to our amazing TNR volunteers, Dawn Lewis and Tracy Deamer whose determination, compassion and resilience made this possible. Through every early morning, late night, failed trapping attempt and successful rescue, they never gave up until every single cat had been reached.
This is what Trap, Neuter and Return is all about: preventing future suffering, improving the welfare of feral cats, and ensuring that every cat counts.

Our June Low-Cost Neutering & microchipping campaign is now complete!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the campaign.
We are delighted to say that all available appointments were fully booked, helping even more cats receive essential neutering and microchipping while preventing unwanted litters in our local community.
