The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT) exists to research why and how cancers develop; find better ways of detecting and monitoring cancers, and test new treatments.

Thanks to your support, we have been able to fund a ground-breaking new study on how and why immunotherapy treatment works for rare gestational cancers.

These crucial studies could uncover how more many common cancers that do not usually respond well could be treated with immunotherapy.

Stefania was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that develops from pregnancy tissue and had spread to her lungs.

She was treated by the specialist Gestational Trophoblastic Disease team at Charing Cross Hospital in London. Thanks to their expertise, dedication and compassion, Stefania received life-saving treatment and today is cancer-free.

She has now set up a fundraising campaign to raise money towards our immunotherapy trial to improve treatment for women diagnosed in the future.🫶

"There are no words to express how grateful I am to Charing Cross Hospital and to the UK for giving me a second chance at life. I will carry that gratitude with me for the rest of my life. This fundraiser is my way of saying thank you but it is also my way of helping other women who may one day face the same diagnosis."

September marks Urological Cancer Awareness Month.

Urological cancers are all the cancers that can affect the organs in the urinary system, including the kidneys and the bladder.

CTRT have a long standing commitment to advancing treatments in this area. One of the trials we are supporting is studying ethnic variation and outcomes in prostate and testicular cancer, while two others are exploring a new drug for kidney and bladder cancer.

Today marks World Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) day. 💜

CTRT is the only charity in the UK dedicated to finding kinder and more effective treatment for patients diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD), a group of rare cancers caused by pregnancy.

CTRT are currently raising funds to support a trial to test a kinder and more effective treatment for women diagnosed with GTD.

The target is £1.6 million and we need your help to reach this.

Meet the remarkable Jamey and her friends who have been doing some incredible fundraising on behalf of CTRT. 💜

Jamey was diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) in 2023. The cancer had spread from her uterus to her liver and was life threatening.

"I was immediately sent to Charing Cross Hospital, in London, where the care & treatment I received saved my life. I would now like to give something back to the amazing people & help in their research in stopping this rare cancer."

With the help of her friends and the Forest of Dean Community, Jamie organised lots of fundraising events in July including a Bingo Night and a family fun day at her local pub the Crown Inn in the Forest of Dean. Her friend, Marcus took on the incredible challenge of completing a sponsored cycle from the Houses of Parliament to the Crown Inn. Amazing achievement! Special mention to Dot, who unfortunately was unable to complete the cycle challenge due to illness, but achieved some incredible fundraising for the team.

All together they raised an incredible £5,252 - doubling their fundraising target!🙌

A massive thank you to Jamey, Marcus, Dot and the Forest of Dean community for your fundraising and support towards our GTD research.💜
