Northumbria Army Cadets conquer the Nijmegen Marches - Proudly supported by SSAFA Northumberland 💙🎖️
At SSAFA Northumberland, we’re proud to support those who may become the next generation of the Armed Forces community and to celebrate the achievements of the Northumbria Army Cadet Force, who have successfully completed the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen 2026 in the Netherlands. 👏🥾
First held in 1909, the Nijmegen Marches are the world’s largest multi-day walking event. Military teams from around the world take part, combining an extraordinary test of endurance with an opportunity to remember those who fought and died during the liberation of the Netherlands in the Second World War.
As part of the event, the cadets proudly carried the SSAFA flag and laid wreaths in tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Ahead of the challenge, SSAFA Northumberland was delighted to support the team with SSAFA wristbands, presented by Derek Cross, SSAFA North East Regional Chair.
Caroline Pryer, Chair of SSAFA Northumberland and Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland and said:
“The Nijmegen Marches are about far more than endurance. They are an opportunity for young people to demonstrate resilience, teamwork and commitment while honouring those who served before them. I am incredibly proud of the Northumbria Army Cadet Force for completing this remarkable challenge and grateful that SSAFA Northumberland could play a small part in supporting them. They are outstanding ambassadors for Northumberland and for the values that unite our Armed Forces community.”
Col Mike White, Commandant of Northumbria Army Cadet Force said:
“SSAFA’s support is greatly valued and enables the county to deliver the very best for our cadets and volunteers. We are immensely grateful to the Chair and members of SSAFA Northumberland for their ongoing support.”
Supporting the wider Armed Forces family—including young people who share the values of service, teamwork and commitment—is an important part of what we do. Congratulations to every cadet, volunteer and member of staff who completed this remarkable challenge. You have done yourselves, your county and your supporters proud.
