Every month, the staff of the neonatal unit vote for their 'star of the month', that special member of staff who goes the extra mile for babies, families and colleagues! This month, the honour goes to Samira Abiikar. Thank you Samira, for all that you do!🥰

May's book of the month is the utterly adorable Hairy Maclary series from Lynley Dodd. It was certainly one of my favourite read aloud books, and we hope our mums and dads on the neonatal unit at St George's enjoy reading the book to their babies 🥰

This May 19th, on World Donor Milk Day, we are celebrating and thanking our hundreds of wonderful donors who have contributed to St George's Neonatal Unit Milk Bank, providing life-saving milk to the tiniest and most vulnerable babies!
Did you know:
💡 Beyond our own unit, we support the Transitional Care Unit and the postnatal ward at St George's Hospital with donor milk, helping mothers to establish breastfeeding for term babies.
💡 The Milk bank supplies donated milk to St Helier's, Croydon, Kingston, East Surrey, Epsom, and Milton Keynes.
💡The bank was founded by Sister Theresa Alexander, and remained open during the 1980s AIDS crisis when many UK banks closed, thanks to her and Dr Tony Williams' unwavering commitment.
💡Thereafter, Dr Laura de Rooy led the service until her retirement in 2023.
Today, Dr Touqueer Fatima, Sister Rebecca Miles, Tracy and Danielle form our dedicated team, continuing this legacy, with the support of First Touch charity!
