A father’s walk: Kendal veteran honours son’s memory while raising funds for SSAFA

A huge thank you to Roger and Chris Millray, who will be taking on a special charity walk across the bridges of Kendal on 20 June in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

They're inviting members of the public, friends and family to take part. It's £5 to join them, or simply make a donation (see QR code on picture).

The walk marks just over 30 years since the loss of their son Darren, who died while serving in Northern Ireland, and is a wonderful way to honour his memory while helping today’s serving personnel, veterans and military families.

Roger has been part of the SSAFA family for many years, supporting the charity through fundraising events including the Great North Run and countless other activities. We are incredibly grateful that he and Chris have once again chosen to support SSAFA and the people we help.

Everyone at SSAFA wishes Roger and Chris the very best for their walk. Thank you both for your continued kindness, dedication and support. 💙

We're thrilled to support SSAFA volunteers and personnel from RAF Boulmer, who came together on Boulmer Beach in Northumberland this week to create a powerful tribute marking the anniversary of D-Day. Designed by Soul2Sand in partnership with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and RAF Boulmer, the large-scale sand artwork honoured the courage, sacrifice and service of the Armed Forces community, while also highlighting the support available to serving personnel, veterans and military families. As the tide gradually washed the artwork away and the combined Military Wives and Allstar Choirs sang, it provided a poignant reminder that while these moments are fleeting, the sacrifices made by generations of service personnel should never be forgotten. A huge thank you to everyone who took part, including our dedicated volunteers, RAF Boulmer personnel and all those who helped bring this special project to life.SSAFA has been supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families for 140 years.
