Tomorrow, Wednesday the 24th of Feb, we’ll be hosting a very special bullerengue session in Seven Sisters for children aged 7-15. It will be a space for fun, discovery and connection, to get to know the tradition through dance, singing, rhythm and play. It’s free and open to all but please note it will be carried out mainly in Spanish as an opportunity to reconnect with the language.
If you know any children or families who might be interested in this space please don’t hesitate to send them this and help us spread the word!

Mark your calendars for next Wednesday, 25th of February as it’s time to turn the heat up with our next open bullerengue rueda! A night of drumming, singing and dancing accompanied and guided by the drums 🪘We can’t wait!

This time, we’ll be hosting a dance workshop from 7:30-8:30 before the rueda, from 8:30-10:30. Be sure to arrive on time if you’re interested in upping your dancing game or simply getting more acquainted with the traditional way of engaging with this powerful tradition. There’s load to unpack regarding the language of bullerengue and we want you to dive deeper with us!

This is a fully participatory event and you’re encouraged to engage at whatever level feels comfortable for you.

A always, this is free entry and open for all, so invite all your friends and help us spread the word! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

This has been a meaningful year for bullerengue in both Palenque and Turbo. The two children groups lead by have been wonderfully active, strengthening their practice, deepening their artistic and personal growth and above all, learning from an extraordinary circle of maestros.

Among them, Eustiquia Amaranto Santana in Turbo and Rosalina Cañates Pardo in Palenque shine as the eldest living guardians of this tradition in their territories and within the wider bullerengue community.

Their guidance has been nothing short of invaluable. They embody the profound importance of passing knowledge from elders to the youth, ensuring that the wisdom, memory and spirit of the culture are not only preserved but carried forward with renewed life and purpose.

Special thanks to Geoff and for trusting and believing in this wonderful project. Thank you to .tambo and to every one of you who supported and contributed to the crowdfunding campaign this year to keep the legacy of bullerengue alive!

Bullerengue All-Stars Puerto Escondido

In 2022, we had the great fortune to share time with many maestros and Bullerengue practitioners in Puerto Escondio. From this wonderful encounter, we had the pleasure of recording an ensemble made up of numerous bullerengueros from the area, led by the amazing voice of Nicolás “El Cholo” Sáenz — an elder and a true reference point for Bullerengue in Puerto Escondido, Cordoba — performing his version of La Cama Berrochona.

In 2022, we had the great fortune to share time with many maestros and Bullerengue practitioners in Puerto Escondio.
